TCU is not doing it.
You take a typical TCU team over the past 10 years and have them play UT, A&M, LSU, OU, Florida, Georgia, UCLA, Michigan....and they lose 8 games out of 10. (SMU btw would get smoked in all 10).
You take this current TCU squad and put them in the BigXII and they are sub-.500
TCU is over-rated, much like Tulsa, because they play in an inferior conference.
That is not a knock on TCU....GREAT FB PROGRAM, just the reality of the BCS world we live in.

True they're playing in a lesser conference, but TCU's been consistently ranked in the top 25 for many years now, or at least knocking on the door. And, per Sagarin, at #15 in the nation TCU would be fourth place right now in the Big XII behind OU, UT, and Tech. I believe I would define that as "competitive" with the big state schools.
Now if by "competitive" you mean would win most of the games, you may only be able to count on one hand the number that could do that against UT and OU. So not only isn't TCU competitive, but neither are 240 other teams.

Just to note...I hate Notre Dame and Charlie We is Fat, but he made a point in his press conference yesterday, that if he had not thrown his kids into the fire last year and made them learn from losing, they would not be 4-1. He said that many of those freshman who made bad mistakes last year are big contributors this year.
Reminded me of where SMU is at, granted we aren't ND, but we will get better.

Tell me all this after Butch Davis plays "Deliverance" on the Frightened Eyerish this week and makes them "squeal like a pig"!
ND barely beat SD State with homer calls.
BTW I know Deliverance was supposed to be set in Georgia but I'm using literary license to include NC!

Blue,
Please get some whine and cheese and have a BIG cry for us. We will never be UT or OU, ever. So get over it.
I concur with SoCal Pony, I've always stated it's MUCH easier to compete with big schools on the hard court and actually win at the highest level. March Madness is fair, BCS is BS.

Preach on, Pony_Fan. I could not agree more. We could be two very good players away from the top 25 in b-ball.......we are probably four very good recruiting classes away from even thinking about the top 25 in football.

Amen brother. At least fans would have a real program to root for. People need to wake up.

I'm pretty diffferent on OU, but I'm embarrassed when people who talk about UT call themselves my friends, too. Blue Horseshoe wrote:I'm afraid our economy will turn around far quicker than we will.
HA. Not even close.

As always the case with JJ, as soon as he gets a decent defensive coordinator, his teams W-L records improves. You guys really need to look at making Coach Reinebold in charge of the D.[/quote]..............................Though alot of us think JJ made a hugh mistake starting a true freshman at QB this year, it probably would not have made alot of difference this year because of the poor defense. No question in my mind JJ will get it done here, but he will have to make coaching changes on defense. Now if he could just bring back Jerry Glanville.....Hawaii had their best D with Glanville as defensive coordinator.

Actually, given the youth, talent level and size of the defense, I think the coaching has been not bad in that area. Obviously, if a really good defensive genius in the NFL comes available at a decent price, JJ could try and hire him. But usually they stay in the NFL, or sit out and collect a check.

Actually 5th as you forgot Missouri.
I think TCU would go 2-5 if their conference schedule included UT, A&M, Tech, OU, OSU, Neb and Missouri....and I am excluding a decent Kansas team.

Obviously, this TCU speculation is based entirely on TCU competing based on current recruiting capability as a non-BCS school. If, in fact, they were to become a member of the Big 12 their recruiting ability would be far higher and they certainly could then compete at the middle level of the conference at a minimum. They would then cease to become a regular top 25 club.
