5 Factors that give Houston at least a 14 point advantage!Moderators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: 5 Factors that give Houston at least a 14 point advantage![quote="HoustonTexan"]1. Top 5 Offense in the Nation including #1 QB in the Nation
2. Kevin Sumlin 3. Dana Holgorsen 4. Case Kenum 5. Bryce Beall SMU is an improved team but has no answer for this Houston team.[/quote You definetly don't have the Nation's best QB...In Fact I'll bet that by the end of the game our true freshman will have better stats than Keenum.
If you make that bet, it's money you'll never have back.
Fact is Keenum has almost 400 more yards than BL Mitchell and 11 fewer interceptions. Any argument that Mitchell is a better QB than Keenum, who leads the NCAA in many passing and offensive categories, is laughable.
So he leads the nation in Total Offense Per Game. What else? Passing Efficiency? Passing Yards Per Game? All Purpose Yards Per Game? Points? Nope, nope, nope, and nope. Most Completions After Drinking 5 Cups of Gatorade After the Opposing Team Has Taken A Defensive Timeout on 3rd and 3? Rushing Yards One Series After Having an Ingrown Toe Nail Removed on the Sideline During the Last 2 Minutes of the 3rd Quarter? Maybe. One does not mean many. What other categories does he lead the nation in? "Life is tough, but it's tougher when you're stupid." John Wayne
"Context clues and common sense can take you a long way in life." Anthony Cann
Mustangicon - I would have put TCU and Baylor in that order also, except the latest rankings that just came out had Byalor above TCU -which surprised me also - worth noting is that they are both well below the top four (Rice, UT, SMU and A&M).
And you can alwys make a case with whatever order regarding the bottom four - but I really think Tech is a better school then UH - frankly I stopped paying much attention after the top 200 schools in the nation. As for football - I think we have a shot at a W based on the improvement we have seen but not a great shot. But after this one we will win the next few games against these clowns, which will leave them with only that kick-a&& hotel bellboy school to bragg about.
Re: 5 Factors that give Houston at least a 14 point advantage!
You tell me which QB is better: Catagory QB1 QB2 Cmp % 57.4 67.7 Passing Yrd 1912 2287 Yrds/Att(pass)7.3 7.7 TD 17 21 Int 16 5 Rushing Yrd -81 156 Yrds/Att(run) -2.53 3.9
I said Mitchell will have a better game than Keenum. David Johnson came in last week as the country's top rated QB and he was overrated. So is Keenum.
My wife went to SMU Law, so I won't rip you guys too much. But the academic smack is weak. This is a football board. But since you guys have yet to beat a Div. I opponent this year (don't feed me that I-AA, FBS crap), you're light on the football talk.
The people who say "Houston is not a good university" have likely never taken a single class here. And throwing around insults like "plumber" does nothing more than make you guys look like the snobbish jackasses everyone things you are. Pony up, SMU. Not for your football team. For the reputation of your alumni. You guys are "all about class" but display none of it.
Sorry dad... ![]() ![]() GO MUSTANGS!
FIGHT ON!
I know its a football board - but the relative merits of different aspects of your opponant come up fairly often in these blogs, so it is not unusual to discuss it - and has nothing to do with class to just point out the facts.
I wouldn't want to talk about academic reputation either, if I was a Houston alum, - Most of us dont pretend our football team is great (yet)- so you would have more crdibility if you would not pretend your university is a good one. if you want third party verification - try US NEWS & World Report most recent university listing - its not perfect but does as good a job as any espcially at identifying the various tiers - so here is what they say: 1st Tier - Rice, UT, A&M, SMU, .....then much lower.....Baylor, TCU 3rd Tier - Tech 4th Tier (thats right - fourth!) - UNT, UNIVERSITY of HOUSTON, UTEP I'm not making this stuff up - just reporting it. Sorry it hurts.
5 reasons UH will win by >/= 14 points
1) SMU's blown coverages . That will count for at least one easy TD (UH +7) 2) Stupid penalties. Stupid penalties will plague SMU all night but at least once stupid penalties will not only kill one drive, but completely change field advantage over to UH. The results will be at minimum an UH field goal. (UH +10) 3) Dropped passes. SMU will drop at least one sure TD (SMU -7, UH +17) 4) SMU’s poor tackling. At least once, a UH runner will look like Godzilla thundering through downtown Tokyo. Hapless arm tackles and poor angles will make some UH player's highlight reel (UH +24) 5) Interceptions. At least one interception will be toss for a UH TD. Whether it is a desperation throw into coverage or a gimme pitch to a UH defensive lineman, SMU will turnover an interception for a TD. (UH +31) UH will earn at least two TDs without SMU's assistance and SMU will get a TD and field goal in the first half followed by another 'great' comeback that comes up short in the second half. However, the results will be a 14+ advantage for UH when the final gun sounds.
I think Texas A&M Commerce is 4th tier as well. UTD is 2nd.
I think you're dead on with that. I'd love for someone to chart these key stats for us. I think we lead the nation in these categories.
The problem for us is that we have to eliminate at least two of the five to have a chance. The best two are to eliminate sure dropped TDs and interceptions for TDs. That eliminates the 14 point difference. Toss in far less penalties on offense and we have a chance to win. Mistakes are the hallmark of a poor team. Continuing the same mistakes year in and year out are the hallmarks of a traditionally poor team. Once we begin to eliminate mistakes, we drastically improve and have a chance to win.
