"Join the Mustang Club on the road as SMU takes on Navy. Tailgate tent is located at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Food and beverages available at $10 per person, children 8 and under are free. RSVP online at smu.edu/beatnavy. " Pony Up!
Right now its me +3 including my sister who is an SMU alum as well. Since we all live in the DC area, we'll be driving to the Mustang Club tailgate party from home. You know it might be fun if everyone wrote their Ponyfans name on their name tags. On the other hand then Orsini will know who we all are. See y'all there. I have a fifth of Single malt on this game with one of my law partners who is a "Middie".
For liability reasons I will be placing JT on my name tag
A+
Anyone staying or living in DC have good suggestions for nightlife? I arrive Thursday and already have my dinner plans squared away for each night. I am still looking for nightlife options however. Staying at the Mandarin and from what I gather that is not the epicenter of bar activity.
Would appreciate names of cool bars, districts, wine bars, etc. Heard from a few locals that Georgetown is played out, true? Thanks, Tycoon #NewLobCity
Stay away from gentleman's clubs in Virginia...bikini and tassel laws.
Yeah Georgetown isn't spectacular, but the "waterfront" area is kind of cool. There are 3 or 4 bars/restaurants around a big courtyard, along a boardwalk on the potomac. If it's not too cold, there's usually a TON of people out there.
Also, you may want to head over to Virginia. The Clarendon area is pretty hot right now, usually live music at Iota, and Clarendon Ballroom is big on the club/dance music thing. Lots of smaller bars and pubs along Wilson, all walking distance from the Clarendon metro stop. Sent from my Motorola brick.
Glad to see so many SMU fans making the trip!Greetings -
For those of you making the road trip to Annapolis, here are a couple of threads from our board to help you decide where to go and what to see: Navy Tailgate and Visitors Guide thread Things to do for an outsider thread At a minimum, you should try to plan to be in your seats at the stadium about 30 minutes before kickoff. The march-on starts around 20 minutes prior to kick and is a must see for first-timers to Annapolis. Oh, and the fly-by will come from the south about the time Navy takes the field. ![]() Good luck Saturday, Mike
Just stay out of Adams Morgan. Some cool bars there, but its also high crime. The DC Waterfront in Georgetown is hopping to some degree. But there are no Metro Stations in Georgetown so its harder to get to. The restaurants keep changing names, but just look for the one with th e most people. The Chinatown area has a ton of bars now that the Verizon Center has moved in. Fados and Clyde's usually have some talent in that area. Capitol Hill will probably be dead since Congress is not in session. Gentlemen's clubs are a shrinking lot, but there are a couple that are in the M Street area near Dupont Circle, I think, but its been a long time since I've been to one.
Old Town Alexandria in Virginia has some nice places, Union Street Pub is usually crowded on Friday nights and of course Pat Troys and Murphy's if you want to go to a true Irish Pub and see real IRA members. Clarendon has a ton of bars now, its right on the Metro as well The Other area that seems to have a lot of talent is Pentagon City which is also on the Metro. The problem though if you're staying in Annapolis is of course getting back to Annapolis from DC after drinking. You definitely need a Designated Driver/Wingman because New York Avenue and Route 50 are well patroled by DC Police, PG County Police and Maryland State Troopers. Lastly, while in DC if you have time during the day, definitely take in the Smithsonian (cool stuff) and the White House. There are also a lot of bars near the mall so you can go sightseeing and stop for a beverage.
