I put this in the bottom 10 thread but thought it deserved its own:
Billy Joe wrote:SMU football seems to create new lows that are not even imaginable.....just when you think this program has bottomed out it sinks even lower.....will Memphis attempt a pass? This question should even make the causal SMU fan attend the game next week.
While I think the weather had something to do with it, how about all these season lows:
8 First downs
-13 Rushing yards
Passing yards: 157
Receptions: 16
Passing TDs (tied) 1
Punting average 33.7
3rd down conversions 1 of 9 ( I believe that is fewest attempts as well and the worst percentage conversions.)
Time of possession: 17:28
This is not an exhaustive list but just the stats that were the easiest to find.
Bottom 10 could have pulled any of those instead of fewest passes attempted against.
Given all this, I do not think the defense did all that bad given the positions they were put in.

Now that is a hot sports opinion. IMO, it was one of the worst defensive performances in the history of college football. Basically Navy said "here's what we are going to do, and you can't stop us.....I mean stop me (Dobbs)"

Did you forget the Texas State game where we did not stop one 3rd down conversion? And they are FCS.
We started the season as totally dreadful and now I think we are just pretty bad.

Going into the game, if you told me we only give up 34 points, I would have been OK with that.

Do we have any season highs or does that only occur up in Denton?

We peaked going up in the first quarter against Rice. It's kinda dropped off steadily since then.

Navy was by far not our worst defensive game.
Avg YPR in the game was 5.25, vs. Tulsa 6.42, season avg 5.18
Yards per play allowed at Navy 5.25, season avg. 6.58
First downs allowed 23, season avg. 25.8
34 points ties for our second lowest allowed, season avg 40.33
Again, given the fact that the offense and elements of the special teams had their worst games, the defense was no so bad.

after watching the game I thought our offense took a major step back. We looked like we did playing TCU or Tech. Terrible. PB"s teams would have done better on O

Did you guys catch the offense comparison between this season and last season? We're down in all the major categories: avg points per game, passing yards, and rushing yards for sure. I am not all that worried about our offense because June is a great offensive coach, and we are playing more young guys this season vs. last.
Our defense is flat out AWFUL. All the chatter that I read, and admittedly was a part of, about guys we wanted to see on the field, thinking we might be at least a little bit better. Well, obviously we are not.
For all the people excited about seeing Rock Dennis play, I'm not sure he's anywhere close to what anyone thought he was going to be. To me, there seem to be times that he takes plays off, or at a minimum is not giving it everything he's got. When he's remotely beat, or he has an angle on a guy that got past another defender with the ball He just does not seem to play with intensity.
And for as bad as our defense is, why are we not playing Alex Odiari? The guy was on scholarship for a Big 12 school for God's sake, so he must have talent. And he's what, 6'0", 235lbs? I've sene the guy on the sidelines and he looks like a player. We were all excited about this guy, but yet he hasn't really seen the field.
I knew this season was yet again a rebuilding year for us, but it's really hard to watch.
