Saw in a local paper wher Matt Connell of Coppell signed with Air Force. I was hoping he would walk-on with SMU. He is deceptively fast and is a good WR. Vince C, a RB out of Coppell, who at one time was supposedly being recruited by SMU and then by Oklahoma signed with a small school in Missouri. I know these aren't earth-shattering notes but is slow and I thought some of you recruitniks might like the info.

Vince C. brings up a good lesson for high school players that Coach Bennett needs to strongly emphasize. Please understand that this is in no way intended to slight Vince. For 2 years, Vince has listed the likes of Miami, Texas, Oklahoma, etc. as the schools he was interested in. Unfortunately for him, they weren't that interested in him. In turn, he held out for such offers and they didn't come. By the time he realized they weren't coming, opportunities with the next level of Division 1 schools, like SMU, were gone as well. It just goes to show you that only 20-25 players a year can sign with Texas, OU, etc. And, those schools generally get who they want - and get them early in the process. What Bennett needs to sell is that if you're not going to get an early offer from Texas, OU, etc., then SMU is a great choice. Otherwise, you might end up being black-balled and end up at a no-name college.
