Andrew Ward, a freshman linebacker at Colorado,has announced his intention to transfer. Ward, a 6'2" 230 pounder played in high school at one of the South's top football programs, Evangel Catholic in Shreveport, LA. Ward played this past year as a true freshman, and had finished spring drills at the top of the Buffaloes' depth chart at the inside linebacker position. According to the Denver Post, Ward has already visited TCU and also has interest in Vanderbilt, LSU, Ole Miss, and SMU.

Wow...That's interesting. It'd be nice go get an Evangel player to come to SMU. Any connection we can get w/ them will pay off huge.

AT COLORADO: This Season (Fr.)—He enters the fall listed second at the ‘hawk” inside ‘backer position. He enrolled in classes in January, after graduating from high school in December (he was a mid-term graduate), and thus participated in spring drills. He fared well in his first spring, as he had eight tackles in CU’s three main scrimmages, including five (all solo) in the spring game.

HIGH SCHOOL—As a senior, he earned Prep Football Report and SuperPrep all-Southwest honors, with Rivals.com ranking him as the No. 24 inside linebacker in the nation. He made the first-team of the Louisiana Super Dozen, and also garnered first-team all-state, all-district and all-city honors (he was the city most valuable player). He also was an all-district selection as a junior (at outside linebacker). As a senior, he was in on 90 tackles, including 24 for losses and 14 quarterback sacks, with an interception and a blocked kick. He had 58 tackles as a sophomore (13 TFL’s, two sacks), with three interceptions and a kick block. He made 60 tackles as a sophomore (three for losses, one sack) and had four interceptions. Top games his senior year: in a win over Archbishop Shaw in the state quarterfinals, he had 10 tackles including three sacks; in a win over Southwood, he had 10 tackles, two sacks and returned an interception for a touchdown. He lettered four years in football at Evangel Academy, with those teams going a combined 54-4 under coach Johnny Booty. His senior (14-1), sophomore (15-0) and freshman (15-0) teams all won state championships, with his junior squad going 10-3 and advancing to the state quarterfinals. He also lettered four years as a forward in soccer.

ACADEMICS—He is interested in business as his major at Colorado, and is currently enrolled in CU’s School of Arts & Sciences. Owned a 3.7 grade point average in high school and was an honor roll student.

PERSONAL—He was born Feb. 12, 1983 in Shreveport, La. His hobbies include lifting weights and spending time with friends.
