SMU offers Franklin OkamSMU has offered a scholarship to Lake Highlands defensive tackle Franklin Okam (6-5, 315, 5.0), one of the highest-rated DTs in the nation. Already academically qualified, Okam benches 345 and squats 500. One of the most heavily-recruited players in the state of Texas, Okam is being actively recruited by (in addition to SMU): Texas, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Kansas State, LSU, Notre Dame, Stanford, Arkansas, Colorado, Nebraska, Northwestern, Georgia Tech, Duke, Oklahoma State and Iowa State. He plans to attend camps at Texas and Notre Dame, and he has offers from every school on this list except Notre Dame.r
SMU! SMU! SMU!
Re: SMU offers Franklin OkamI count 16 schools on that list and 15 offers. And there are some top-flight programs there, many of which have been after Okam for quite a while. And it concerns me that he's going to camps in Austin and South Bend, but not to SMU's camp.
Nonetheless, Coach Bennett is said to be a terrific recruiter. I would maintain that signing Okam remains an extremely long longshot. But if he could somehow pull this off, it would be a major coup of the highest degree. I've seen Okam, and he has the body of a mature player in his 20s. He's enormous, and extremely strong and talented. Again .... a longshot. Allow me to dream!@ "What kind of weirdo school are they running over there in Fort Worth?"

Re: SMU offers Franklin OkamI don't know that I would like our chances here but who knows!
Re: SMU offers Franklin OkamHail LAke Highlands, We salute you, All through the years.
Damn get this kid, he sounds great and comes from MY high school. This is just the way to kick off recruiting, going for the best fish in the pond. Go Bennett and all Mustangs Mustang Militia: Fight the good fight"
Re: SMU offers Franklin OkamIf we were to somehow get this guy, there should be an assistant coach whose fulltime recruiting obligation becomes protecting Okam's commitment. He's going to get bombarded by colleges all the way up until signing day.
Re: SMU offers Franklin OkamNot so fast, my friends!
Fellas, I want to see Okam in an SMU uniform as much as anyone. But as Stallion always points out, just because SMU offered him doesn't mean he's considering SMU. I want to see something quoting him as saying he's interested in us before I get too worked up.
