thank god there is no playoffthey were talking about it the other day on espn, if we had a playoff, all we would care about is waiting to watch the tournament, as it is now, we watch every game to either cheer for or against a team....think about it, how many people only watched the penn state game to see them lose to iowa?
Re: thank god there is no playoff
I didn't, and I don't watch many bowl games anymore either. Why? Because they don't mean diddly squat. I usually turn on the BCS "championship" game, but otherwise I quit watching bowl games when they started springing up like dandelions. (Admittedly, when SMU does finally make ANY bowl game i will go, and be thankful for the meaningless bowl.) If there was a playoff, I would probably watch 90% of the games, and more regular season games to see who is going to make the cut. As it is now, I would bet that there are only a few teams that the unaffiliated college football fan watches this late in the season, the remainder people don't care about. If there was a playoff, where the champion of every conference got in, then more than the blessed undefeated and one-loss teams of the BCS conferences would be worth watching. Any team still potentially in the conference title hunt becomes a team that is playing a game that more unaffiliated fans would be interested in. The donkey's name is Kiki.
On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney? Good, Bad...I'm the one with the gun.
I halfway agree. A playoff would have made the USC vs Oregon State game a little less exciting because we knew it meant USC would not make it to the BCS championship the way it is now.
Im not for a major playoff. Especially if there was still designated BCS conferences because then the little guys, which make up half of D1 would always be screwed. However i think a 4 team playoff for the championship, with bowls still available to the other teams is the way to go. Even though it wont happen. Because it is possible 4 BCS teams could go undefeated and the fact that 3 have gone undefeated, the BCS Championship formula should be illegal since they just shun one because of what some voters think.
That USC to the playoffs theory is probably flawed because right now, if Oregon St wins out they win the PAC 10 and would be in the playoffs. Of course, USC might still earn an "at-large" depending on whether it was a 16 team, 12 team or 8 team playoff. I prefer a 12 team with all conference champions getting in and the top 4 seeds getting 1st round byes.
