With both us and USM off this week just why is this game not being played this week?

It allows the 100 true fans to have their pick of where they sit

We're just plumb tuckered out.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

They want it to be played during Thanksgiving weekend so our fans don't have to sit through the embarrassment of another blowout.

I suspect CSTV asked that it be on that date in case the game meant something. USM has historically been in the title hunt and SMU with JJ was thought to be a story at the beginning of the season. As it turns out the game is meaningless from a CUSA title perspective.

Because this is the closest date that we can get to a bowl game.

this is the honest reason for the bye week...so we wouldnt have to play someone.
most schools have 2 open weeks. some schools only have 1 because they schedule an opponent during the second open week
we just didnt schedule a team.

Ouch. At least some of you folks haven't lost your sense of humor! I applaud you for your cleverness and creativity in the face of such a forgettable season.
Your team will turn around next year. Something's got to give. You guys who are sticking around through this steaming pile of a season will enjoy it that much more when your team is successful again.
All that being said, Southern Miss is going to whip up on SMU this time. For as down and out as your side is right now, we are equally fired up. I don't know if we'll hang 70 up on you like we did on UAB but I do not expect the score to be close.
I hope no players are injured on either side and I wish you guys good luck in the off season.
Respectfully,
Bobby BlackAndGold
