Tayler Gabriel - 2009 FB prospectFYI, Gabriel visited the SMU campus today, spending alot of time with Coach Jones. The 5'9 170 4.5/40 WR-CB-KR from Mesquite Horn H.S. led the 5A DFW metroplex in the regular season with 80 catches for 1293 yards and 13 TD's in leading Horn to their first ever playoff berth, where he added 10 more catches in a close loss to Copperas Cove this past Friday. He will be soon be officially named his District's MVP, over such players as OU commits Marcus Trice and Josh Aladenoye among others. He was named the top WR at the Dallas Scout.com camp this past spring.

How does he have no offers? Look at his senior stats! Academic?
With the Departure of Henderson we have an opening in the lineup for Starting Smurf. -CoS
Lee is even smaller than this kid, and he's playing RB, total apples and oranges WRT size. Cole Beasley and Aldrick Robinson on the other hand, are closer in size and play the same position. Don't get me wrong, I agree that getting fast, agile, TALL receivers is a priority, but if the kid can play, slap a pony on his helmet and get him out here. -CoS
If this guy was 6-3 he'd be headed to UT. The size of our prospects is quite often chosen for us...
Weren't Bess and Grice-Mullen about 5-10 each? I'm not thrilled about it either, but JJ seems to recruit/find success with these smaller, quicker receivers. I think this guy could fit the mold nicely. I like to see his kind of production at the HS level -- I am always more concerned about kids we recruit who had 5 catches for 12 yards in their senior season, prototypical size or not.
Cool story on Rivals. Answers everyone's questions from above. Good pic of Gabriel and JJ.

according to rivals he is really being recruited as a corner. There is a lot of 5' 9" corners.
http://www.nfl.com/draft/tracker#dt-tab ... ion/pos-cb thats last years draft at CB. A lot of 5' 9" guys on there...
he caught every pass in his highlite film!!!!!!!! (just a little joke) Not bad-I'd like to see more home runs though in a highlite film. Often makes the first man miss but not sure if he has breakaway speed but he does have pretty good stats and gets an A for production including yards per catch for an inside receiver- 80 catches 1293 yards 16.2 yards per catch 13 TDs. Never seen a verified time for Gabriel-did everything but 40 yard dash at a Scout combine-apparently doesn't run track.
