Ryan HarpI know there are some differing opinions out there on Ryan Harp and his value in SMU's rotation. I have not been to either of this year's game but I think Harp is at minimum a valuable hustle guy for our rotation.
Harp was our best on-ball defender last season. He also came up with loose balls, rebounded exceptionally well for a guard, and busted his tail all game long. However, his ball handling was nowhere close to being able to play some PG for us and to say he was skittish on offense would be gracious. His lack of a reliable outside shot has really limited his offensive potential. Still I submit to everyone Harp's stats from the first 2 games this season. In a total of 30 minutes (which would be starters minutes for 1 game)Harp has produced: 8 points on 3-7 shooting, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, and only 1 turnover. If he has played solid defense along with those boxscore fillers then I would think that he along with Mook will make a nice combo off the bench as energy guys- one guard and one big.
agreed...he's only a Soph. Harp will contribute by doing the little things and I expect him to be a part of a continuing improvement in SMU hoops
I wasn't writing him off and am not saying he cannot add something now, or in the future, all I was saying is that he does not handle the ball well and does not pass well and at least last night, he was in danger of getting the ball stolen everytime he was on the floor, and I think that is why he did not play much.
I was at the game and he just looked well behind the others that were playing. You mention his 3 of 7 shooting, one of his 3 makes was last night, an uncontested layup, he also air balled a 3 attempt and missed his 2 free throws...badly. I agree he might could be a spark or help with the D, but I don't want him taking minutes from the players that have more upside, my opinion only, of course. Womack + Wishbone = Heisman
Class of 89
also has a couple rebounds, a blocked shot and drew an offensive foul earlier...just doing the little things
Nothing against Harp, but I'd like to see the rotation slimmed down from the current 10-man, and he'd be my odd man out. I'm a little concerned with Robo's quick hook with his players, they don't have time to get in a rhythm.
