Missed the game, but let me guess...lots of saggy zone D and missed free throws??
I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.

This is getting more and more disappointing. We have the players to be considerably more competitive. They are being miscoached.

Misssed the game as well as i had to work late last night... After reading the game topic it seems to me like we just weren't ready to play... It's simple... And that is both coaches and players' fault...
As far as the offense go, we run a montion offense which is basically much more complicated that it might appear from the side... You really need to have all 5 guys on the floor having a good feel for each other and work together to get a good look at the basket... if run well, it is very hard to defend as the defense has no idea what to expect... however, if players on the floor are not working together, it could get a very predictive and stagnate offense that spends most of the shotclock passing arount the arc and taking a bad shot at the end... From what i've seen this year so far, we tend to fall into the second category...

Actually, my reaction after the game is that "those things happen".
The guys had a ton of wide open looks, nobody around, and couldn't hit anything in the first 5 minutes, and we were down 17-2.
They made a great effort to fight back, but ran out of gas after getting within three and Rice hit two really tough 3's to open the lead up again.
We are so much better athletically than Rice. I am going to stand by what I have said before - this team is going to start playing well at the end of the season and we are going to have a really good team next year.

I do agree with JasonB... I do believe that we are moving in the right direction, at least with the type of players we have... I really do hope that we are better next year...

PonyDoh said this is on another thread. The defense is poor and they are not organized. I agree that our talent is better -- in certain spots like the guards.
But when you clearly are better than some of the teams that you have lost to BY DOUBLE DIGITS, then you've got some major issues that aren't going away.
And if they do get better, will they get better under Doherty? I don't think so.

So on paper we've got more talent than last year and the year before, yet we're seeing no improvement on the court (performance or record-wise). On paper we're more athletic and talented than the other teams we play, yet we suffer embarrassing losses. Is this coaching, overrated talent, or something else?
The Rack's explanation of the motion offense was very good and I know you can't scrap your offense midseason, but if we're "too young" to grasp the concept of motion offense, then don't we have to try something else? Wasn't if after the TCU debacle that Doh said he was going to incorporate more set plays? Where are those??
I find it humorous that Doh is yelling at his players the entire game, but instead of coaching them and giving them direction (SET PLAYS!), he is teaching/scolding them for basketball basics...boxing out, defensive stance, dumb plays, etc. Not saying that shouldn't happen, but it seems like he is doing a lot more of that during the game instead of actually coaching the game situation.

Hard to get to the FT line when you don't drive the friggin' basket.

Let's face it, Doh is just pushing all the wrong buttons right now.
IMO, practice is where you do all the yelling & screaming & teaching.
I like it when the HC's let the players that have earned the right to play have @ it in the game& the HC concentrates on working the refs.
The players know when they screw up better than anyone. Nothing better than to have captain hook yank em out of the game & embarrass them in front of the fans.

Call it a hunch, but I'm guessing you have reached this astute conclusion without seeing many games.

See, I disagree. We have more talent, the improvement in athleticism is quite clear on the court. Last year we were flat out overmatched athletically several times, and were blown out in several games. We havent' been blown out and dominated yet this year.
The athletic improvement comes first, then the young guys grow up and the team plays better. We will be much better at the end of this season and next year.
