i just want Rufus Porter. And the guy from goliad sounds like he could be a steal.
Just the name sounds right.
Interesting coincidence, Porter was one of the recruits I bumped into at the hotel in Tulsa last weekend. Another kid from his high school was there as well.

Antonio Parker, Porter's high school teammate, committed to Tulsa last weekend. They both went on visits last week.

If we add Porter, Parker, and Davis this is one heck of a class for a 1-11 team.

Personally, I'd like to hear from the kid rather than the parent about what's going on. I don't completely doubt what mom is saying but I would put more credibility into what he thought.

June Jones has never failed to turn a team around. We will be no exception.

Honestly it was the recruiting aspect of Jones that I was the most leery about. You couldn't really judge him by the class he put together last year as he really only had three or four weeks to assemble the group, but there do appear to be a few nice players out of that class. This class though reinforces why I believe June Jones will be the guy who turns this thing around. Despite winning only one game we are going to have a class that finishes in the top half of C-USA with a couple of really nice additions like Darius Johnson and Joey Fontana. Adding Porter and Parker would be a real coup for us.

Maybe maybe not-we aren't in top half right now by either yardstick CUSA has picked it up this year.

He's saying if we had Todd Dodge or Gary Gibbs we'd be setting the world on fire right now! And thank your lucky stars we didn't land Paul Johnson!!!

Here's the question: Are we appearing to meet needs with quality Div. I athletes that match the offensive and defensive schemes we're running?

All other discussions are irrelevant.

And I'll say that really we haven't addressed all our needs. Looking 4 deep at the roster critically rather than as an SMU homer,

First, I'd say we are about as thin at QB as just about any team in the country not in the MAC or Sun Belt. Don't have a 4th string QB for next year which is gamble. I would hope we can get better talent at QB. The June Jones factor hasn't really gotten us that Superstar QB recruit yet.

Second, Its troublesome we weren't able to sign more DLM other than Frazier-instead we'll be forced to move players there.

Third, We are changing our philosophy at LB to quick and small from just plain slow-which I think eventually I believe will work out but all the LBs we will probably sign probably need some time in the weight and conditioning program (they range from about 195-205 lbs) although they might not get that time out of necessity. Not sure we've really found our answers at LB for the immediate future.

Fourth, its a questionmark whether we've addressed what could be a disasterous RB situation for next. We were LAST in the country in rushing last year and may have no new candidates from this recruiting class eligible to play next year. Hopefully, we catch a break with the NCAA and McNeal is eligible next year but that's a gamble. The remaining talent at RB is thin and unproven and they several don't project well physically as a DIA RB. We could have used another RB in this recruiting class even with McNeal.

I think we addressed our offensive line needs for the long term future but it won't really show as strength until about 2011. We have signed enormous numbers of DBs and WRs over the last 2 years-probably a sign that we've made some mistakes.

Basically, I think its fair to point out we left a lot of emergency needs unaddressed.

Bryce Petty is still wandering through the wilderness out there. I am interested to see where he ends up.
