Man-with freezing rain I'm going to start drinking heavily. Freezing rain is always good excuse to sleep an hour and a half late and pretend that roads were "too hazardous"

Freezing rain & sleet falling in north Dallas near Preston Road & Royal Lane.
Ahh, the Purple Cow restaurant and the Flying Pegasus.
The Cobbler gives a good shoe shine and repair.

despite Stallion's admonishment, I've just realized that today's the first day without an adult beverage for me since a week ago Sunday.
I guess that's good?

Just make the executive decision to open the office later...like at noon. Then you dont need the excuse. I'm trying something new tonight...I'm terrified that the power will get knocked out and my car will be trapped in my garage. This has happened before and it was most inconvenient. So I'm leaving the garage door open. Fortunately, I have a deadbolt on the door that leads from the garage to my ground level. But if I am slaughtered in my sleep tonight by someone sneaking in fromt he garage know that I loved a few of you.

Can't you just pull the chord with the red handle on it to disconnect the electric door opener? Don't they all have this?

yes, but if there's a layer of ice on the outside of the door that freezes it shut, that won't do much good.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

Another reason I love being in Texas....ice means no work til noon! I don't see what the point of opening at all is but a half day is still better than a full day.

I had to be in Court this morning here in DC (we're still seeing ice). Of course no one let the TV stations know, the Court didn't change its phone message, so I tiptoed through the ice and snow to get to Court and found a note on the door that there was no Court today. I could have gotten drunk last night! Sad part was I had an uncontested motion and needed to get the Order signed. Now I have to wait another two weeks. One of the joys of the law.

Thanks for all of the advice and responses regarding my garage door. I should have added that I live in a small, gated community so that helps a bit with my fears of getting robbed via the garage.all of our garages face inward to each other with a gate to enter and leave.
I will look for the yellow cord thingy for the garage opening mechanism. I always imagined there must be some way to open it in situations like these.
Lastly, I could go purchase a generator. But dude, I was raised by my mother...I wouldn't know what the heck to do with it once I brought it in.
