Sure it's not an exact science, but it is a science, and compared to Texas, SMU has not made it out of the petri dish yet. I hope that changes soon.
I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.

what an idiot! So let me see Recruiting does not equal success based on the Texas Longhorns who have probably the 2 or 3rd best winning percentage in college football over the last 8 or so years. Who has a better record? USC, OU, LSU, Florida? How do they recruit-probably in the Top 5 over an extended period. In my mind the best teams in the Country ARE the BEST recruiting teams in the Country. USC, LSU, Florida, OU and UT. Only one can win the Championship. Bottom Line-all recent National Champions have had extraordinary recruiting success.

I thought it was rather funny as well. Would love to have had the success they have had the last decade.

On top of everything mentioned so far, the BCS arbitrarily selects 2 teams to play for the mythical BCS championship. I wonder how well Texas (or any other top recruiting school) might have done if there were a real college playoff.
The BCS limits the ability of teams to even sniff at a National Championship.

"Mack brown couldn't coach his way out of a paper sack."
Wow. So taking a team that was ranked 16 to start the year to a 12-1 record and a BCS win isn't good coaching? Maybe you should try actually watching a game or two. It will help to make you look less like an idiot.
Back off Warchild seriously.

Even if he couldn't coach his way out of a paper sack (which is incorrect) - he really does not have to - does he? All he has to do is put his recruits in the game and they win - becasue he is an awesome recruiter.
I dont like Texas - but you can't deny the truth.

Mack and Big Game Bob have won the same number of national championships -- 1
I'll give you the conference championship stuff, but in this age of immediacy, no one really cares about conference championships. I do, but in general, the public really doesn't.
Mack is 3-0 in BCS games
Bob is 2-5 in BCS games
Mack has also won 3 of the last 4 meetings with Bob.
So LONG LIVE BIG GAME BOB AND HIS FAILURE AT EVERY BIG MOMENT!
