-------------------------------------------------
Good recruits (future starters):
Henderson
Munlin
Lindley
Vincent Chase
Solid recruits:
McKinney
Unknowns:
Romo
Bobby Chase
Lowery
Pryor
Akenyemi
Less regarded:
McCray
Martin
Ships left: 1 WR, 1 OG, 1 C, 1 DE, 1 DT,
1 S/CB/Ath
JUCOs/Transfers: 5 (must be a record)
Rating: There are some solid players, but a whole lot of unknowns could turn into gold or absolutely nothing. This is a class that could produce anywhere from 4 future starters to 9 or 10. The fact that no offense or defensive linemen have committed yet has to be dissappointing, but at least on the defensive side of the line we are after some solid players.

I'd probably put Martin in the "Unknown" category. Had close to 2,000 rushing yards in 4A. Injury last season is what dampened his recruiting because he was an unknown. He does have a visit scheduled to A&M. There was supposed interest from TCU.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Martin could well be the jewel of the Class-he played in 5A not 4A and had about 1995 yards (the DMN was not up to date) and averaged 9.5 ypc. The recent reports on him have him perhaps sneaking into the Texas Top 100-the only reason for the low ratings was because he was hurt last year. BTW according to a quote of Martin on the Insiders Martin was offered by TCU and the Aggies set up an official visit. Martin's Head Coach indicated the week before his final game that he was being bombarded by inquires about Martin from across the country-and Martin did nothing to dissuade that in his final game with 188 yards on only 22 carries. He ranks with the better RB recruits we've committed since the DP.

Okay, sounds like he is more of a solid recruit. I was just trying to play things on the conservative side.
We still have a ton of unknowns in the class. I don't think this class measures up to last year, but it might measure up to be about the same as the first class Bennett had.
Getting the WR and TE help is a real plus. What remains to be seen is if we can close on some good linemen.

Thanks for posting the list.
I have a question regarding Lowery. Where did he play JUCO ball? I thought I had read that he hadn't played anywhere this past year.
Thanks in advance for the info.

Does this make him a "grey shirt"-is that the term?

Gray shirt is when they enroll in January but count on this years allotment, not next.
I could be wrong.
Seems to me that Texas signed 27 on Feb 15th, but only had 25 to give, so two guys enrolled the following January...hmm. That would count against the following year's class (and you'd hope for attrition from your sucky players to get back to 25).
Could be like backdating a check... say if in 2003 signing day we only had 22 available, but then the following year 27 graduated...well we can only give out 25, but we are then 2 under the 85 limit, so we can gray shirt them back against that year's allotment.
Seems to me it would work more like post-dating a check, not backdating it...
ANYONE?

I think Martin is similar to Merrill at TCU, which if he is, we have ourselves a very good RB. To me, he is the most intriguing commitment yet. Pure speculation, but I just hope we can keep him down the stretch.

he could count on last years but it really doesn't matter because we are only 18-19 under the 85 man limit. So we can't take more than 25 anyway.

Add Blackmon to the list. That gives us 5 scholarships remaining. One will be a QB. I don't know about the other four.

Picking up the new corner to me says we will not pick up another saftey.
I see us as 1 WR/QB, 1 C/OG, 1 OT, 1 DE, 1 DT. The rest of the focus should be on linemen. With the JUCO pickup, I don't see the need for another QB. He might not be the strongest recruit, but the experience is important and the young QBs are going to be good.

My understanding was that we will be recruiting another QB. Bennett doesn't want what's happened at the QB position over the last 2 years to ever happen again.
