Mike Leach Contract Question

Postby lwjr » Tue Feb 17, 2009 3:39 pm

From what I understand one of the hold ups in the contract negotiations is, if Leach is paid for a speech he gives, Tech will deduct that amount from his annual salary. So what is Leach's motivation to seek paid speaking engagements? My question is, Does this type of clause appear in most head college coaches contracts?

I hope they lose him. Not saying his position (or his agents' position) is any better, nor am I saying that there is something wrong w/ Tech. I just hope they lose him. Maybe SMU will have a better chance against them in the medium-term (or not).

It just seems like Meyers is wanting him gone. I really can't figure this mess out.
When will I start feeling stimulated??

It is no secret out here in this part of the state that Meyers and Leach are not the best of friends. I am not defending either side but I think Tech needs to get ride of Meyers and bring in a AD who knows how to run an athletic department. I believe Leach would be gone if he could, but this guy interviews very poorly and he is an odd duck. He has a good thing going in Lubbock but I don't think either side realizes how much they need each other or what a good thing they have.

Leach is looking in his cupboard and seeing no Crabtree or Harrell and is is saying "Oh S#it, I better get a little more in this contract", lawyers are just stating the facts, TT doesnt want Leach to be bigger than the university and they havent been in this position of football greatness for many years and quite sure, doesnt know how to handle the Leach deal

Actually, they have never been in this position ever. The word's Texas Tech and Greatness are only associated with Ugliest Campus in America and Women's Basketball. Tech is perhaps the weakest sister of the old SWC in terms of success and national relevance

This thing has gone on too long. I think Leach won't be at Tech's opening game. The dispute over his personal services fees is just that "personal", the Leach era is over and Myers will have to figure out what next? Think Babe Routh and Boston! Even if I am wrong and he stays, he will leave first chance.

if they think they are worried about him jumping ship imagine being an Iowa fan where as their head coach is mentioned for every other opening. yet kirk ferentz is happy at iowa for the last 10 years, he could have many other jobs if he wanted them, i think tech needs to take that play out of the iowa ad's play book

A&M's campus is uglier.

As the Leach situation drags on, rumors are a flying out here and around the state as to what happens next. Supposly if Leach has his contract bought out, since he did not accept the current offer, Tech will make a run at Art Briles.
