You should start by having no expectations, that way if SMU wins you will be pleasantly surprised, but when SMU loses, you won't be overly disappointed. Hope for wins is fine, just no expectations.

That's not fair ponyboy, anyone who is in favor of changing the status quo is a fan by definition.

Welcome to the boards,
I too am optimistic, but much more cautiously. You have to be careful when you look at that those four "close losses" last year. Hell, Phil Bennet's last two seasons featured a 6-6 season and a 1-11 season, and of those 17 losses, almost all of them were real close heartbreakers.
SMU has not pulled a close game out since we got that Bobby Chase catch against UAB. We have not shown an ability to win the close ones in a long time.
Hopefully things are looking up and I will support them no matter what, but I'm gonna wait for a few wins before I'm start building my bandwagon.

welcome! but i have to differ with the comment regarding negative posters. without those guys (and girls, as the case may be) we wouldn't have nearly as many things to write about. we have to have something to unite over, so it sometimes starts with negative fans.

Welcome 'New Era' and anyone else new. If you look back, most of the posters started in 2000. That's nine years of SMU football; the bad and the worst, including last year. This coming year is going to be ground breaking for the program. There are players on the team that want nothing more than to win and make it a tradition. It sounds like Bo is leading that charge along with ES and AR. Now if we can just get some defensive players to buy into it (OK besides Youri Yenga and Thompson) let's get ready to have some fun.
Bowl Time...
