Rivals is reporting SMU has received a commitment from DE-OLB Kyle Griffin 6-4, 225 4.7 from Colleyville Heritage who they call "one of the fastest rising prospects in the Dallas Metroplex". Offers from North Texas, Army, Air Force and Miami-Ohio. Reports "heavy interest in ND and A&M which appears to be mutual as he reportedly cancelled an in-home visit with the Aggies scheduled for today and a visit to N.D. scheduled for next weekend. That's significant to me because its pretty late in the recruiting game for schools like A&M and N.D. to be foolin' around with a recruit who wasn't at least in their back-up plans. 12 sacks as a senior First Team All-District

Impressive pick up. Would like a few more of them, but got to be happy with this one and the schools intersted in him.
The attitude dictates that you don't care whether she comes, stays, lays, or prays. I mean whatever happens, your toes are still tappin'. Now when you got that, then you have the attitude.

I heard Miami-Ohio offered to do everything but move the school to Texas in an effort to get this guy -- they really pressed hard for him. And remember how impressed we all were with Miami's overall speed? If this guy was a top target recruit for them, maybe that listed 4.7 is accurate. I don't know if he could play OLB at that speed, but with a little more muscle, he might make a really nice, quick DE. Sounds like a good get, coaches!

now we're talking. I like these guys that are 6-4 and can run. I seem to remember Allan Adami coming out of H.S. at 6-4, 225 and he turned out to be pretty good, right? I'd love to see us fielding a pair of DEs someday who are 6-4 and in the 250-260 range and can still run. Get him in here and introduce him to Coach Faucette!

If they've unearthed another Allan Adami, the coaches will be elevated to recruiting legend status.
I really shouldn't drink and type.

Unofficial Scouting Report

Kyle Griffin (#81) is a quality addition, and one that makes me feel pretty good about this year's class. Griffin is a friend of SMU OL Justin Boren, and I'm sure that helped. Griffin will benefit from a year or two under Coach Faucette, but he's already got a good frame and is a good athlete. Like Boren, this kid loves to hit. He's one of those players that comes at you [deleted] every play, and you're in for a fight every snap until the final whistle.
Too bad we missed on Alan Davis earlier, because both of Colleyville Heritage's DEs will be good 'uns.

I have a contact at A&M who said he had heard his name thrown around before Obiozor committed to them. He was considered an extreme backup plan because he is small for a DE. They do think he has rising stock and that is why he was scheduled for an in-home (their coach was going to be in the area looking at another player, and thought he would drop by).
So, he wasn't really recruited heavily by A&M. BUT, they do think his stock is rising. He has good speed and if he keeps it while adding weight, he could be a very good player.
