I absolutely believe in program building, but I don't see any of that happening here. That being said, I think Doh deserves one more year to change my mind. I hope we can have a winning season next year, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I said it when we hired him, and I still stick to it: Doh is not a program builder. We will be his longest coaching job when he comes back next year. His best season at every place he's been has been his first (i.e. with someone else's players). He is a big time name, a face for the program, and a salesman to the boosters, but he has not shown the ability to build a solid foundation for a team.

So what if he goes 15-16 and finishes 11th in CUSA in his 4th year? Fire him or do what Baylor did-retain him and go the NCAA Tournament in his 5th year for the first time in what 50 years? Its a tough question but it depends on the progress shown and the players in development.

Yeah, having coaches like Tubby Smith and Bill Self will do that for you.

15-16 and a win in the first round of the conference tourney next year (which I believe Baylor had that year) would be definite improvement. I'd be fine bringing him back with a team that finally has upperclassmen in that situation.

Drew had recruiting momentum. He was signing deep classes of quality players from Texas like Dugat and Rogers by now. He was building a pipeline. It wasnt that hard to see. The jealousy was rampant on this board as a matter of fact. They had pulled a few upsets and were on the rise. Notable missing ingredients in SMU's rebuild right now.

Recruiting momentum is an understatement. Their recruiting has been fantastic. I still do not know how they did it. Count me as VERY jealous.

Well to be fair Doherty has signed two kids that even the national experts were dumfounded by in Dia and McCoy. I'm actually pretty pleased with the 2008 Class. Satisfactory. Let him do his recruiting thing for the 2010 Class and try to light a fire under Dia(he's not the first to have a Sophomore slump). But you know I agree about Baylor's recruiting-and I will be critically evaluating SMU's 2010 Class. He needs a JUCO SG and an Inside big man. He's got 1-2 months before that Report Card is due.
