I was takling to a local high school coach who said he's been a lifelong SMU fan and said Doherty's never even been to visit Cedar Hill, has had chances to get local kids who wanted to stay close to home but basically ignored them only to watch them sign with better programs than SMU, has ignored some highly rated Texas kids, amongst other things. I hope Doherty works out but he seems to cut his nose off a lot if some of these things are true...

If that's David Milson, then Doherty's blowing it. David is one of the best people you'll ever get to know. He was a saint to put up with the Horton crew.

When you don't even hear our name mentioned in South Dallas County circles, you just have throw up your hands and ask why?

Milson is a great coach with an outstanding program.
If true, Doh never visiting their campus is both hard to imagine & totally unacceptable. Surely Lutz drops by between Starbucks & Pei Wei errands for Doh.

that is definitley NOT Milson...I have personally been in the Cedar Hill gym with Caoch Doh. Actually, Coach Doh has been in most of the gyms in the Metroplex during his stint on the Hilltop.

BTW, what does this have to do with the Drew and Baylor thread?

That's good news. Is there a chance he could get a recruit from this area to come with him?

In all seriousness, what is his problem here? Ego? Rapport with players and coaches?

Just wondering...

apparently some didn't pay attention when many warned the Jimmy Tubbs fiasco had done long term damage to SMU's chances of recruiting the area. Once more SMU hasn't tried to fill the vacuum.

That's right. We will never get any other area players ever again. It's over.

I'm convinced that the right coach can tap into the market.
Also, if Doh's around next season it will be interesting to see how this plays out with one of his neighbors from Highland Park. David Edwards is a 6'9 center & ranked #34 in Texas for 2010.

Not to beat this point into the ground, bc I have made it a few times, but the #30+ ranked players in the state that you have pointed out today are ranked much lower than some of the in state players we currently have (or had) on the roster. Alex Malone was a top 20 guy. Ryan Harp a top 15 guy. Nayakundi I think was also rated higher than the guys you pointed out today (#34 and #39). I'm not saying that you aren't good if you aren't a top 30 player in the state or that recruiting rankings are the be all end all. However, if Doherty can't get it done on the court with Texas guys rated in the top 20 in the state, what the heck do you think he is going to do with guys rated outside the top 30?

Daniel Edwards is a stiff of epic proportion. I'd rather pee blood then to see us spend serious time on that recruitment. Certainly, I'd like to tap Dallas more, but it's mostly about better prospects and players. Are we really going to sit here and cry if we sign Clinkscales over a Javarez Willis b/c one is local?

Just curious, but how many times have you seen Edwards play?
My point was here's a guy that lives down the street from Doh. Can he even sign him?
Also, when the ball goes through the net I really don't check the program to see where the guy that just scored played his HS ball @. However, I do think it is important for a program like ours to establish a good identity/reputation in the area. Its hard for me to understand how we don't have one kid from Dallas on our team.
