Mustang Radio Network Announces 2009 Broadcast Team
July 29, 2009
DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU Mustang Radio Network today announced its 2009 broadcast team, headed by nine-year play-by-play announcer Rich Phillips. Joining Phillips in the booth will be former Mustang tight end John Hampton, who moves to the booth after three seasons on the sideline. Replacing Hampton on the field will be newcomer Sean Bass of Sports Radio 1310 The Ticket.
Phillips, who joined the SMU team in 2001, is the Mustangs' play-by-play man for both football and men's basketball. A local radio personality on 1310 The Ticket, Phillips handles "Ticket Tickers" daily from 5:30-10 a.m., and also hosts the NACSAR-themed "Race Week" on Saturdays. In addition to his on-air duties, Phillips also serves as assistant program director at The Ticket.
Hampton, the leading pass-catching tight end in SMU history, makes his first trip to the booth for college games, but the former Mustang has spent the last three seasons as color analyst for Aledo High School games.
Bass joins SMU with over eight years of sports broadcasting experience in the DFW market. In addition to midday "Ticket Tickers" on 1310, Bass is the host of "Diamond Talk," the Texas Rangers' post-game show, and "Ticket Sports Saturday/Sunday". From a football standpoint, Bass has announced high school games for several 5A Texas high schools on Champion Sports.
SMU opens the season Sept. 5, when the Mustangs host Stephen F. Austin at 7 p.m.
