Million Dollar Saloon Closing?

Postby bagice » Tue Aug 04, 2009 11:53 am

Someone told me that it was shutting down by the end of the summer. I feel sorry for the current students at SMU, Upper Greenville is all but gone now, back in the 70s and 80s, its hard to describe exactly how many clubs and bars there were on Greenville about 5 minutes from SMU......Good times.

RIP Million Dollar!

Pretty sure last Friday (7/31) was the last day for the Saloon at the current Greenville location. Moving over to I-35 with all the other nudie bars...

im predicting that smu blvd will be cleared of bars in 3 years and ONLY lower greenville will be available ...way to go smu, i would put money on instances of drunk driving going up this fall.

there's is major pressure from SMU to sell...Barley is less than a yr from being extinct, count on it.

Not Milos! I will stage a protest if my college watering hole goes under.

Thanks SMU.

If that substance abuse task force just a year or two ago proposed an on-campus pub, then wouldn't it make more sense for SMU to try to keep these SMU Blvd bars open because of their close proximity to campus? Perhaps make these "SMU approved" bars and provide shuttle service to and from campus to discourage drunk driving?
Maybe get a variety of bars/clubs along that stretch so it could cater to a larger cross section of students and keep the partying as local as possible without it being on campus.

part of the problem is about 80% of the on campus students are underage, we're a commuter campus in essence...

The Grandfather of a kid I went to HS with owned the Million Dollar Saloon until he met his untimely demise there about 20 years ago. Geez, I can remember as a kid when that stretch of Greenville had The Saloon, The Filling Station and the Judge Roy Beans.

Damn, I miss Judge Beans...They had dollar margaritas all the time and 1/2 price drinks when it was raining, and 1/3 price drinks when it was snowing....Anytime it snowed, it was packed with SMU students...

Filling Station was fun too, had many a Tuneup there.

The New Filling Station isn't too bad. Tuneups and Tailpipes are just like they used to make em. Just wish it was closer.

heh, if we were lucky, twice a year...I remember one January in 89, I was in my African American History class and it started snowing, the Professor noticed it and told us all to reconvene at Judge Beans...about 60 of us went there and got loaded on 33 cent margaritas.....great college experience!
