Re: Article on SMU being in Big 12 countryNot sure i would agree that we can compete on the athletic facilities level...maybe the big north but i know we cant touch any big south school with the facilities we have...they may be nice but they are smaaall in comparison.

I agree regarding facilities and suspect the facilities at Nebraska, Colorado and Mizzou are impressive.

Re: Article on SMU being in Big 12 countryForget the academic part. Dumb article to even mention that angle.
Most recruits could care less about SMU's academic reputation regardless (its ok but not as great the writer makes it out to be). RICE attracts strong student athletes but SMU will never be RICE in the academic department nor do we want to be RICE on the football field. Strong student athletes often do not translate into good players. If someone wants to study Physics in college then they should forget about trying to do that and play football. Its the rare athlete that can do both and succeed. Facilities are what really attract recruits. Just look at Oklahoma State. How many football players are going to be Lawyers/Surgeons/Professor/Rocket Scientists etc???? If a recruit is serious about school then they would probably try and use the fact that they are a high school football player to gain admission to an IVY (yes, its easier for smart athletes to get into a Harvard/Brown vs the nonathlete). These type players are often 1 and 2 stars and SMU should not be interested in them. Why torture yourself in college if all you want to do is be a high school teacher or coach? Find some easy major (communications arts is an easy Mick major at SMU ) and concentrate on football.
