Any good Run N Shoot offense needs a formidable threat in the backfield. Since June Jones doesn't like his qb's to run, it's gotta come from a productive back. The UH Cougars used to have Chuck Weatherspoon run for 150 yards per game becasue after a while the defense got lazy and covered all the recievers. Houston Oilers did the same with Lorenzo White and Gary Brown. None of those teams won championships, but the key ingredient to keeping the defense honest was to have an effective back that could make the defense pay for sitting back on the recievers.*

I don't like to thank the NCAA for anything after 1987, but I am grateful they gave McNeal the go ahead. "McNeal is the real deal"

Not to take anything away from a positive night for McNeal, but they let himscore on the last 50 yard run. Had he just kneeled down at the 5, we could have taken a knee and run out the clock. By scoring we gave them a chance to tie.

Bingo. Shawnbrey is legit for sure, but a chunk of those yards were garbage time yards. He was bottled up on a lot of runs for the first three quarters. the run blocking is not up to par.

screw it. we're playing SFA. if the defense cant stop them with 1:30 and no timeouts, we should quit playing football. myself and expony _ _ both agreed that the "right" play was to lay down on the 5, but the kid played a great game and should walk on in... if it was the BCS championship, CUSA championship or bowl game im sure he would have handled it differently

i agree, glad he went ahead and scored even though they wanted us to score. if you cant stop SFA on one possession, hang it up. and 24-23 would have felt even more like a loss.

Say he lays down and then we somehow go Joe Pisarcik and bobble the snap on the next play. Then SFA can win with a field goal. Scoring the TD — especially after running off a few more seconds — was the right thing to do. Then, in the worst-case scenario, SFA has to score a TD and a two-point conversion. Doesn't guarantee a win, but sure puts more pressure on SFA.

His feet are so quick and he didn't break free during the first three quarters but you could tell he was going to when the defense tired down The fourth quarter wasn't garbage time as the game was still in question. All great backs get much of their yardage late in the second half when the defenders can't catch him anymore. We needed him soi much more tonight as "gunslinger' din't have anything at all.

It was great to see his burst and his ability to pop it outside consistently. Yes, we will face more formidable defenses, but he looked strong.

I'm encouraged by the fact that he will be taking all the reps with the 1's in practice this week. He can get more comfortable with the O-Line, and they can probably get more comfortable with him. They've never had someone that fast behind them. He looks like a tough runner, too. Really liked seeing him deliver a blow a couple of times. Our runners the last few years really wouldn't do that.

he missed ONE HUGE hole (twss), before his td run, but besides that i was extremely impressed... but i cant get over the cut back he missed before his td run... either way, he does a GREAT job of setting up his blocks and keeping his body low to the ground. he is a LEGIT division 1 running back. im sure some of you have man crushes on shan d or KK, but this kid is WAY better then either of them... in the time that i have spent around smu football, mcneal is by far the best RB i have seen. he proves te talent difference in CUSA and the ACC (where he was mediocre). we are very lucky to have him.... now if we had a qb/wr who could make a connection, his job would be easier

Lucky for McNeal JJ does not trust BLM one bit. We do not run the Run and Shoot JJ ran at Hawaii. Not even close. JJ knows BLM is terrible. And because of this Shawnbrey will get a lot more carries this year that most RB's in JJ's offenses in the past. Shawnbrey is awesome though. Him, Darius and Youri are my favorite players.
