Something to build on

Postby SMU89 » Sun Sep 06, 2009 12:03 pm

We want our defense to get turnovers -- we did it.

We are not used to coming back from behind to win -- we did it.

We are not used to having a running game -- we have it.

We need special teams to make plays -- they did.

We need new players to make an impact - they showed up.

Yes, our receivers dropped balls that were in their hands and the QB was off - it happens (and obviously needs to stop).

We got the W.

There are a lot of positives we can build on -- our coaching staff knows what they are doing and will help these guys improve.

Agree- but are we building our foundation on sand or stone? Looked pretty shaky last night.

these guys had better find a way to win one of these next 2 games or we could find ourselves 1-7 coming into that Homecoming game against Rice

Sand turns to stone as you make accomplishments and gain confidence.

It was painful, but we made accomplishments in a lot of areas last night.

Unfortunately, they were not readily apparent in the receiving and passing game. Let's hope this is a one game problem.

Is Iowa's foundation on sand after nearly losing to Northern Iowa? Is Virginia's after losing to William & Mary? Of course not.

Two things we know after last year are the fact that Bo Levi Mitchell can throw the ball, and the WRs can catch it. Yesterday they didn't. But good players sometimes have bad days, and a few of our offensive guys, including Bo, did just that. Plus, they had two really short scoring drives — without those turnovers, we're patting the guys on the back after a blowout win.

Nevertheless, we won, and that, I think, speaks volumes about the coaching staff. On his postgame show, Coach Jones said something about learning to win when the team doesn't play well.
