So the 98 yard TD got called back for a receiver holding down field....just found that out.

He still ended up with 198 yards on 15 carries without the 98 yard run.

Why wasn't this kid recruited by more teams? His stats are solid...Does he have some glaring weakness or will his stock rise?

Good question...I know someone that would know and I asked the same thing.

He had a pretty decent freshman year and some people started to take note...then he broke his leg his sophomore year so I think that may have something to do with it. Also, he is a 1A kid and there's always the whole level of competition thing. That being said, there's no doubt he's an athelete. At 5'10" 230 or so he can dunk a basketball.

Also, he only got 170 carries last year but still averaged 10 yards per carry which is about what Traylon Shead (1A UT commit) has averaged at cayuga. Pope only got 15 carries last night so, if that is any indication, the coaches are probably not going to give him enough carries for the eyepopping yardage....just for the sake of the stats. (BTW Shead had 166 yards on 26 carries last night)

I think this kid is poised for a very big year so he may garner some attention as the season goes on, but us being on him early is going to be a big plus. My source also tells me that he does have more written offers than what's showing on Rivals, as I believe UTEP and Tulsa both offered.

I'll continue to give y'all updates on games and anything else I hear. I'm also going to try and drive up to Mt. Enterprise for a game this fall and watch him play....it's only about 40 miles from lufkin.

He's a 1A player(which in Texas means total student enrollment of between 100-199 including girls). He had good stats for 1A but not overwhelming. UT Recruit Traylon Shead ran for 3,502 yards 52 TD last year. Shead's run for about 8,000 yards in 1A BEFORE his senior year. The stats get silly in 1A Football. Now consider that usually only about 1to 3 1A players get scholarships each year although last year there was a higher number of 5 Division 1A recruits. Plus what is his height? I've seen several reports even from local papers that he's about 5-10, 225. Now I admit there may be some players that get overlooked in 1A but those numbers tell you why he was not "highly recruited". You can count on one hand the number of 1A players who were "highly recruited" over the last decade. Schools are probably taking a little closer look at 1A in the last few years I admit.

Threw a 70 yard touchdown pass
Had an 80 yard kick-off return for TD

No word on total carries/yards but he hasn't played in the 4th quarter. I'll post final stats when I get them.

According to Smoaky.com Pope had 229 yards rushing not 202. Seems to be conflict-did he throw a 66 yard TD or catch a 66 yard pass?

Kevin Pope, Mount Enterprise, 16-carries for 229-yards, 2-TD's and caught a 66-yard TD pass in 64-31 win against Hawkins
