in terms of expectations, I agree...but we've had some classic "self destructing" defeats over the years. I seem to recall it became a way of like under Bennett.

I would say losing to Ole Miss at the Cotton Bowl in '98 season was painful. We were up 41-19 with 9:00 to go in the 4th. Lost in overtime.

Surely the "modern" era would have to include the 1980 Holiday Bowl loss to BYU.

And @Tulsa in '07 was a fairly huge collapse. Had it won, I say.

POST DP Dead Ball Era:

Agreed on all counts. The '97 TCU loss by far was the worst, since we had a coach who was just being stubborn. I may feel worse about this one than Rice. The first two definitely had bowl implications and this one may as well.

What about the third and 19 conversion by Houston at home? Can't remember what year or what was on the line, but them converting and driving to score was a kick in the groin. This one was a double kick in the groin.

What about the UTEP game two years ago where we were up by I think 17 in the late third or early fourth quarter, and of course UTEP then decided to run up and down the field at will, winning it in overtime. Or the miserable 24-6 trip up to Denton in 2006. Or the ESPN televised child abuse special against Texas Tech to start 2007 after all of the hype and excitement coming off of a bowl eligible season.

Come to think of it, I think there is a pattern emerging.

how about that 3 OT loss to Memphis? So close...

I guess we could put most of our OT losses into this category, because as I recall, we generally blew leads to end up in OT

The loss to Rice the year we went 6-6 with Bennett was bad. I was pheasant hunting and kept getting updates on my phone and almost puked when i read about the int at the end! As much as I wish we could have gone to that bowl game instead of Rice, Rice got blown out by Troy. And I have a feeling we would have too! Still wish we could have gone !

Have we won an OT game since they starting doing OT in College Football?

The game at a@m in 95 when they got the bogus touchdown because the

receivers foot came down out of bounds. :x
