Areas of Statistical Improvement

we all know that Interceptions are way up 11 (projecting 44) in 2009 compared to only 8 in 2008

also:

another sign that DBs are playing better-Passes Broken Up 15(projecting 60) in 2009 compared to only 31 in 2008

Tackles for Loss 19 for 84(projecting 76 for 336) in 2009 compared to only 48 for 203 in 2008

QB Hurries 8 (projecting 32) in 2009 compared to an unbelievable low of 7 in 2008

Of course, we only have 3 sacks for 30 yards so far and had 18 sacks for 110 yards last year

Defensive Statistics:

Average Per Play: Down to 5.4 from 6.5

Average Per Rush: Down to 4.2 from 4.9

Average Per Pass: Down to 6.0 from 9.0

Average Per Catch: Down to 11.7 from 14

Of course, we haven't played UH, Tulsa etc but there appears to be some improvement so far defensively

Defense is still young and learning, but I think speed has increased enough to make a difference. They are still going to give up a lot of yards until we can add some size and experience, but it sure looks like it is coming together.

The stat I really would like to see improve, and I think will is sacks. The way the SFA QB got the ball out quick which made him impossible to sack. We have had better shots at sacks the last two weeks and have actually put a few on the board.

I think the hurries are showing we are there but are just a step behind. Sacking the QB will undoubtedly lead to more turnovers via fumbles and more 3 and outs.

The sacks will come. They hit the WSU many times on Saturday right as he threw the ball. One of the hits caused an interception. All this with Yenga watching from the sidelines...

I'm with you guys — I think the sacks will improve. Yenga got close a few times in the first two weeks, and I fully expect him to exceed the 6.5 he had last year once he gets healthy and continues to get more comfortable in his new position.
