What are our chances against Nevada, FS?I need help from those that watch and follow the BBall team. What are our chances against Nevada and Fresno State on the road? What are our keys to winning? Thanks for any insight.
Re: What are our chances against Nevada, FS?Chances against Nevada: not good
Chances against Fresno Remedial High: not good
Re: What are our chances against Nevada, FS?Earlier in the season, i would have said little to no chance. But now, if SMU can play like they did at Rice and Tulsa, the Nevada game should be within reach. I dont see us matching up physically with Fresno based on what I saw in Dallas, but you never know how the scandal will affect their focus.
Re: What are our chances against Nevada, FS?Honestly it depends on which team shows up...like was previously said, if they play like they did against Tulsa then they have a shot, if they play like they did against Boise State, and San Jose State......well....who knows we will probably lose both in that case. I don't think it would be unreasonable to see us go 1-1 on this trip, but then again 0-2 wouldn't be unreasonable either, I would like to see 2-0 but......

On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney? Good, Bad...I'm the one with the gun.
Re: What are our chances against Nevada, FS?Nevada - decent shot but not very likely (they killed Fresno recently) Not a good road team but have only lost 1 at home.
Fresno - very slim chance
Re: What are our chances against Nevada, FS?Thanks for the insight. I will listen to the Internet with boundless optimism.
One never knows and maybe the recent winning has given our team real confidence.
Re: What are our chances against Nevada, FS?I'm not sure that you guys are watching the same team I've seen fror the past 3 weeks. This team is capable of beating anyone in the WAC if they have a good shooting game. The defensive improvment has been spectacular sine early on and the offense seems finally to get it. It hard to win anywhere on the road but I think the Ponies will come back with at least 1.
Re: What are our chances against Nevada, FS?Nacho, you are the WORST "fan" on this board.
I agree with OP, this team is capable of beating anyone. I'm starting to think some of the people on this board just like to whine about how bad we are. Wake up, we've put together a pretty scrappy team. We've beaten Nevada and came within a shot of beating Fresno. Granted these games were in Dallas, but I believe this team has gained enough confidence to easily go 1-1 or 2-0 on this trip. [This message has been edited by UNFMustang06 (edited 02-10-2003).]
Re: What are our chances against Nevada, FS?I think they gained some confidence with the TU win on the road but I just don't have a great feeling about playing either of these teams on the road. If they can go out and hit 11 of 11 like against Rice, then surely they have a shot. We'll see who shows up on the road.
We have 5 very tough games in a row. I think we'll go 2-3 or 3-2 depending on the Nevada game. Eliminate the TO's and better perimter defense will win games. [This message has been edited by Pony_Fan (edited 02-10-2003).]
Re: What are our chances against Nevada, FS?I don’t see how anyone can say they don’t like our chances in either game?? We beat Nevada by 10 in the first meeting and after playing terrible in the first half against Fresno we had a chance to win the game in the last possession. This is a league where anyone can win on any given night. We have the best player in the conference, Q, and the best freshman in the conference, Hop. Not to mention a team that is confident and shooting very well from the line. Maybe you guys know more than me but I really like our chances for a 1-1, or possibly a 2-0 trip.

Re: What are our chances against Nevada, FS?UNMF you surprise me. Is it a full moon? Do you really think SMU is going to beat Nevada and Fresno High? I may be the "worst fan" but at least my butt is in a seat watching and cheering for the stangs. I guess it bothers you that I'm not some blind homer.

Re: What are our chances against Nevada, FS?I have to agree with Nacho. Beating Nevada at home is much different then beating them on the road, especially the way they have played since the SMU game. Do we have a chance? You bet. This talk of us "easily" going 1-1 or 2-0 on this road trip is a bit optomistic, however. After watching WAC basketball for several years, I can say that Dement is right about one thing he constantly repeats. To win in this league you have to hold serve at home and steal a few on the road. We have mostly held serve at home, with 2 notable exceptions. If we walk away from this road trip with a split, I'm a happy camper. If we were to lose both, however, I wouldn't be surprised. Don't expect a sweep.
Re: What are our chances against Nevada, FS?Nevada's beatable. Not sure about Fresno JUCO.
Re: What are our chances against Nevada, FS?Nevada beatable?
They have won 5 in a row and their last 9 straight home games. We will be lucky to have a single digit loss in Reno. Final score probably something like 80-60 in favor of Nevada.
Re: What are our chances against Nevada, FS?All I know is, 7 wins out of the last 9 ain't too shabby. We are a hot team right now. We may not match up particularly well with either of these teams, but we are playing some pretty cocky late season basketball, and I am not ready, as a fan, to say we don't have a legitimate chance to put a hurtin' on both of them. Have faith, people. If you don't expect a lot, you don't really deserve to get a lot.
S-M-U spells SMU!!!
