Is it true ECU is one of the top 5 schools for partial qualifiers and Jucos ? My friend in Houston who follows this more closely has told me so. Also, how old is this QB -- hasn't he been there 5 plus years ?

Not picking a fight, just curious as to the facts. Again, until we have similar players who are more experienced and we do not throw out a bunch of true sophmores a freshman I think we are going to have a hard time.

We cureently have two JUCO's on the team & three partial qualifiers (partial qualifiers have to sit out one year make the grade academically. Our QB was granted a medical RS at the end of last season ...... this is his 6th year. He graduates in Dec with a Masters in Child Development.

no such thing as partial qualifiers any more. You either qualify or not. But a school can still admit a non-qualifer if it meets the university standards-but he has to pay his own way for first year. Yes there are schools that actually can admit a player that doesn't meet NCAA Standards. Advantage to an instate public school with low tuition. Not many non-qualifiers that can pay $50,000 a year to go to SMU so its irrelevant to us.

Thanks for the info. I wish we had a "child development" option for some of our kids. Until we develop those majors and can admit more potential kids I think we still will be behind the ball.

There are only 2 JC guys. No more than 2 or 3 NQ at the most (and you do realize NQ is the same guy other schools like UNC send to Prep School).

Thanks again for update. I really don't care if you have 20 Juco guys and was not trying to poke at you. I just was curious as I think many of our fans have some unrealistic expectations yet for our team. You can't send 18 and 19 year olds out against 22 and 23 year olds who have redshirted and are more experienced. I think we are still like a JV team vs. a varsity team for many of our opponents. Outside of our center who is playing on a bad knee, we are very young at OL.

I know we are finally changing some things, but until we are playing varsity vs. varsity I have no expectations. If we keep getting killed at that point, then I will re-evaluate. Good luck this week and lets hope no one on either side gets significant injuries.

I got the total number right but the breakdown was not correct.

Here you go ......

This years roster .......

Arrington ...... Hargrave Military Academy (Grayshirt)

Brockameyer JUCO
Reynolds JUCO
Rogers JUCO
Ruffin JUCO

Help me out .......

Do you recruit natioanlly as well as hit Texas & Oklahoma hard? I'm guessing your entrance requirements are very similiar to Duke.

Thanks .....

We recruit Texas heavily and parts of Louisiana. Then we cherry pick nationally.

We are losing a ton to graduation this year. We will be looking at signing some JC guys, even a QB.

The JUCO/NQ is a myth that begins with our rivals in NC...

There will be 1 starter of the 22 that will play for ECU on Saturday that began their careers as NQ's... that is CJ Wilson.

The NQ thing at ECU and the prep school route are one in the same... thats the thing BCS schools in the south want to deny. A kid comes to ECU, cannot participate in football, gets no redshirt, must meet academic standards, and must pay their own way. A prep schooler gets to go to a private school, play football, possibly take a redshirt, and who knows how these folks pay for these very expensive private schools.

Its in fact easier for them to go the prep route... BCS folks just try to mask it.

Our standards for athletes used to be comparable to Duke's standards for football players but we pretty much dropped them to NCAA mins upon hiring June Jones. The staff seems to be concentrating on the North Texas area (including DFW) while ranging to Oklahoma & Louisiana & randomly getting players from elsewhere. Slow upgrading in talent is happening. Previous regime seemed to wait until all D1 type of kids committed and then offered anyone else who a) qualified academically and b) had to go throw our summer camps (only halfway in jest on that one).

Does this mean he won't be blowing leads for the Rangers next season?
