3 ways Padron plays this year
1. BLM and Smith go down with injuries 2. BLM goes down and we are within striking distance of a bowl (even if Bo were to go down with an injury in the immediate future, which I hope he doesn't, I don't think Padron goes in) 3. JJ loses his mind/patience and decides to burn another redshirt

Ponysnob, you are right. My point was that JJ only had a few days to try to get a class, and we are paying for it. Outside of Bo, we have no easy options only tough choices--many believe we have no choice.

Mexmustang-that's the point-Padron's not a big time Freshman-he's long term project who has played about 5 high school games. And the reason that UT, UH, Tulsa, and Tech have "options" is because they are smart enough to redshirt just about all their QBs throughout the history of the program. If you jump to the freshman the sophomores and juniors leave the program. Jones has no real pressure to suceed immediately-the people who really understand the situation know that its going to take some patience to build the type of program we want-even if we luck out and beat 6 bad teams in the next few years to go to the Weed Eater Bowl. That's not the goal.

Like I said, I hope you are right. But, you have to agree, it is not how smart these coaches were, it all has to do with their depth, Texas, OU, and Tech have really never been forced to even consider such a question. Out of 85 scholarships, we have maybe 50-60 players this year. We are using over ten on people no longer even on the team. June's job of course is secure, but he has burned alot of redshirts already, including offensive lineman. There are other considerations, personal and fan expectations, next year's recruiting and losing the team, they seem frustrated as well ("skipping over" isn't really that big a deal when your talking about substituitng a freshman for a sophomore, and there are a number of underclassman already replacing upperclassman in pt). Let's see...it will all be mute if Bo can get straight.

We still have 3 years to redshirt Padron if he plays this year. We will have McDermott here next year so we can redshirt him then if needed. No reason to panic over a redshirt.

You hit the nail on the head. I don't have a big issue with burning Padron's redshirt. We don't have an established pipeline of talent right now, but we are getting there. As was mentioned in an earlier post, JJ didn't have time to recruit his first year. We now have future prospects (Kaiser, McDermott). Burning Padron's redshirt now still gives us three more years to continue to build the pipeline. My issue would be putting him in before he is ready and what that can do mentally. One of BLM's issues may be that he played before he was ready and now he is too panicky. Our O-line also gave crappy protection for the first two possessions at TCU. They settled in and gave him time to throw as the game went on, but BLM didn't recognize that and rushed things. At the luncheon, JJ said several times that the qb has to expect protection, no matter what happened the play before, and BLM is not doing that. I think, if we don't see improvement from BLM and win at least one of the next four games, Padron starts the last four. If we win those, we still have a shot at a bowl.
