When South Carolina played us in the baseball regionals, their photographer posted a ton of photos of her on their web site. It was a big hit.

Speaking baseball, why don't SMU field a team?

Because we are a poor underendowed university whose AD only cares about football and sometimes basketball.

To answer the question, SMU dismantled its baseball program in 1980. Football was king here, and the athletic department didn't make room in the budget for it (and it's perfermance had not been particularly stellar, so apparently there were no real champions around to put up a fight).

Plus there's no place to play.

We don't currently have room on our small, land-locked campus for a baseball stadium. We had to make room for the Bush library and you can see for yourself the problems that's caused.

When the baseball program was killed, it was playing at a city of Dallas park (Reverchon) most people would be afraid to visit after dark.

That may have been the case at one time, but I don't think it's the case anymore. I, for one, would not be frightened off by Reverchon after dark. That area of Dallas has been revitalized nicely.

If we were to start baseball back up and play at Reverchon, I would definitely make most home games.

I have said in other posts, that the only logical place to play baseball at SMU would be to build concessions, seating and dugouts at the park across 75 from Mrs. Bairds. I don't remember the name of the park, but there is plenty of room and I am sure the City of Dallas would love some kind of joint venture to build a nice baseball park in this area of town. It could probably be upgraded for a cool million.

It isn't walking distance from campus, but it is a 2 minute drive.

That's Glencoe Park, and it would be a nice park for baseball. Might not be enough room for parking, though.

Skip Holtz sounds like he just can't wait to get here.

Wait ... 86 ... you mean this thread was about football?
