Observations & Questions

Postby OC Mustang » Sun Oct 11, 2009 1:56 am

1. Defensive Line = wow...goal line stands and 4th down stands are boss
2. Margus Hunt = no words can describe this guy's contribution in the future...he's wicked.
3. LBs / Kennemer...this guy has Bill Bates' mojo
4. Secondary = these guys work hard...show good communication...and have hutzpah.
5. WRs = good blocking (Aldrick, that wasn't a hold on McNeal's run, no matter what the ref said)
6. Sanders = stud...deserves his own comment...the guy has been a pleasure to watch play
7. McNeal = as advertised...man it's fun to watch him weave in and out
8. Line = nice north/south pounding the middle...big brass cajones
9. O-line = all-in, you guys look solid...little tired there in a couple of series, but great job tonight
10. Coaching = post-game alleviated frustrations I had during game...you are focused...good
11. QB = All-in, well-done...because it was a win and no pics...but you gotta work on mental game
12. Refs = ya'll sucked tonight...multiple crappy ball spots...found holding outta thin air...unnecessary roughness and personal fouls...WTF?

All-in, the team beat the opponent and the refs...and even with the inconsistency of offense and one special team mental fart, ya'll showed flashes of brilliance....

I don't know how the rest of the season will go, but personally, it is looking as if this SMU team is indeed better...as to how much so, we shall see....

But I got my money's worth tonight, and by God, I'm happy about it. 8)

Second!

June had it right, if this was an away game, our team might not have had the energy to come back or hold the lead. Great defense. Good crowd for the size. Bo looked better, I think he felt better. He now needs to be smarter on the field.

Didn't get to watch the game until late in the 3rd quarter. Can someone tell me how the 96 yard TD pass happened? Did BLM air it out or was it a short pass with a long run after catch?

Margus with his 2nd blocked kick?! What an animal

He went over the top down the left side. Nice throw. Excellecent catch. Then he ran away, although I tht he loaded for the last 15 thinking he had it until he realized somebody was closing.

My only reaction was: sonofab!tch. Goes without saying it got us going in the second half.

I agree with all the comments on this thread, just a couple things to add.

Freshman Ja'Gared Davis did not play a ton but when the kid is out there he is playing at a different speed than everyone it seems. He forced a fair catch on the big 3rd quarter punt (straight ahead speed was impressive). He also blew up a RB who tried to block him on a blitz near the end of the game, knocked him 3 yards into the backfield. Not sure how he was a 2 star with offers from Baylor, Tulsa, La Tech, and interest from much of the Big 12 South. The kid is going to be a player.

A little over 13K in attendance is pretty [deleted] poor.............at least we have operation "Sellout" to help us meet the NCAA minimum requirements.

We will have good attendance at the Navy game. Lots of Navy people. Hopefully the Mustang fans show up and the students show up to at least give us an even fan base.

Question I have. What was the personal foul with 5 mins left in the game? This was the penalty called after we scored. I heard is was a personal foul but I did not hear what was the foul.
Just send 'da money.

Two things I've noticed for years about June Jones-he always goes for the long ball after a big defensive play and he loves to throw deep when we are backed up especially with a guy like Aldrick. Think about it-it stretches the field about 60 yards-that's a lot of area to cover. If he can just show that capability then that opens up a big area for underneath throws.

congruent with JJ's postgame comment "yeah, I cant tell you how man 89, 90, 95 yard TD's we've had over the years"

Was "unnecessary roughness"...nobody over with us saw it...we are in Section 105...

There were some homer calls throughout the game.
