Big plans on tap for SMU-Navy game

11:34 PM CDT on Wednesday, October 14, 2009

UNIVERSITY PARK – SMU can't offer Big Tex or corny dogs, but it's making Saturday's 7 p.m. kickoff with Navy a bigger to-do than normal.

Former President George W. Bushwas invited by coach June Jones to take part in the festivities when Bush visited practice in August, Jones said.

SMU wouldn't confirm if Bush would attend, saying it's not privy to his schedule. A spokesman for Bush said they don't discuss Bush's schedule.

Plans include a tribute to the Armed Forces that includes a pregame football delivery from the Navy SEALS and a flyover. The newly established Gansz Trophy, in honor of late coach Frank Gansz, will also be awarded.

Fans with Texas-Oklahoma ticket stubs or Saturday admission tickets to the State Fair can get tickets to the SMU-Navy game for $10.

Briefly ...
Freshman receiver Darius Johnson (broken clavicle) has been practicing since last week and should play Saturday. He's been out since the Sept. 5 season opener.

So glad to have DJ back on the field...
