Oct. 17 -- Organized practices begin

Postby George S. Patton » Wed Oct 14, 2009 9:06 pm

We start prepping for 2009-2010 for real. No turning back now, and let's hope everybody in on pace academically so we don't lose anyone after mid-January.

Let's have a purpose.

I am ready! Glad it is finally here...Wish we would have some type of fan jam event to signal the start of practice....even if only a couple hundred showed up, it would still be nice and maybe grow bigger each year.

I think the official practices begin this Friday although I am not 100% positive. Typically, the official practices start after SMU Basketball Banquet, which is today.

From what I've heard, Coach Doh is not a big fan of the "midnight madness" festivities.

Doesn't seem like he's a fan of March Madness either.

Forgot about the Dinner with Hubert Davis. Probably is Friday. Still, looking forward to getting it started. Countdown to tipoff is less than one month away.

It's going to be interesting. Everyone seems to have similar expectations. I've got my fingers crossed.

I was at the Tip Off Banquet last night ( it was sold out! and was full) and Doh said he was very energized and felt more confident in any team he has had. I assume he meant here at SMU. He didn't even have team captains last year as he felt that no one was ready for that responsibility, but after being with the kids during the last month ( they can practice once a week for two hours per NCAA rules) and realized that they have come back with more maturity and are now ready for leadership with his three named Captains. Hubert Davis spoke and reemphasized how team captains were so important to the success of his carreer at N Carolina and on into the NBA and related to a coveted team picture that showed his team captains from his junior season. I am excited to see what we do here this year with a good early schedule with TCU, Big East's South Florida and Texas A& M here at home.

All the games are important but I really have the South Florida & A&M games circled.
Beating the Aggies would do wonders for local publicity, confidence, recruiting, etc..
Playing @ home should help & getting off to a quick 2-0 start would be a beautiful thing.

It was sold out last year as well and Doh stood in front of everybody and said we would reverse the 10-20 record of the previous year, to a 20-10 record in 08-09.
