Re: I'm still sick about Wash. StateOne time at band camp this kid [deleted] in my soup, it still bothers me.
Re: I'm still sick about Wash. StateLike Phil at Rice or Cavan at TCU I think this loss will define JJ
Re: I'm still sick about Wash. State
WOW...that's prophetic...or profane....you be the judge
Re: I'm still sick about Wash. Statei must say it is too early for defining losses for JJ such as those others. but there was no excuse for blowing that game tonight and no solace in being close whatsoever.
Re: I'm still sick about Wash. State
The Navy game last night must have been like reliving the nightmare. GO MUSTANGS!
Re: I'm still sick about Wash. State
I'm just tired of waiting 25 years to have a decent team. And I'm not sure that JJ is worth $2M per year. We have lost 2 games this year that we definitely should have won, and you have to lay the blame on coaching.
Re: I'm still sick about Wash. StateAnyone can complain about Jones' coaching and I did in the WSU game but the truth is, we needed a coach of his reputation in order to get the changes made in admissions and friendly classes. A good coordinator, or lower division head coach like we got with Rossley, Cavan, and Bennett would have been in a position of wanting the job and willing to take it without any major changes in those areas. In the case of Jones, we targeted him. He laid down what he wanted in order to agree to coming and I am certain it was much more than just the money. Remember, his reputation means something to him also. You saw the changes in the recruits we were able to start going after and some of the ones we got that we had never gotten since the Pye edict. New athletic friendly courses have been or are being established. Another couple of years we should be level with our recruits within our conference. Whenever Jones decides to quit and go back to Hawaii, we will not be forced to go out and pay as much, nor will we have to hire the big name. The trick was to get equal on who we cold bring in, and let the Dallas area and the campus do the rest of the recruiting. It is happening. The trouble is that this is what should have been done immediately after the DP but instead the administration turned the other way. Other than some valiant tries by the other post DP coaches, the true recovery did not begin until Jones was hired. So like it or not, we are only 2 years into post DP recovery. The previous 20 was kind of purgatory.
All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Re: I'm still sick about Wash. State
Didn't Phil's first game at SMU against Navy kind of define his time as a head coach? Peruna is my mascot!
Re: I'm still sick about Wash. StateI took the family to Ford on Saturday night. My 2-year-old ended up with a diaper "issue" that mandated our departure at halftime. I was really impressed by what I saw in the first half though. Obviously, the second half was very different and we let it slip away. That was a real bummer. But I've also come to realize that this bunch of players are different from past SMU teams. They really want to win, they are buying into the system, and they are not going to let a tough loss wreck the whole season. Our problem right now is execution on the offensive side of the ball. That can be fixed during the season. A losing attitude cannot. This team does not have a losing attitude. Regardless of how the rest of the season goes, I am happy at what I'm seeing from Jones and this team. They've got a lot of guts. I agree with Jones that we are still a couple of recruiting classes away from where we want to be. But these guys are really playing hard and I can't help but admire that.
Yes, we could be 5-1. We could also very easily be 1-5. We're 3-3 and the guys are playing hard every week. At this point, I'll take it. I really believe the execution will come.
