Smith is obviously a quality player and I am pleased, although somewhat surprised, he committed to SMU. I was also not aware that Smith was on the radar until the last several weeks and neither were most of the people on this board. I still find it surprising that we are elated to be battling WKU for talent. Never-the-less, Smith appears to be the type of kid necessary to start turning the program around. Welcome to SMU Leslee Smith. Doh still needs 2 more high quality kids to salvage the 2010 recruiting class.

As far as Patsevich is concerned it appears he is a quality talent; however, it is a long year and it remains to be seen if he can learn English, qualify academically, stay committed and whether or not he actually makes it on campus. ( Just take a look at our 2009 football recruiting class where 6 ( as I recall ) never qualified and they all spoke English, went to US schools and knew what was at stake to qualify academically.) Hence, I still consider Patsevich to be a long shot.

There is so much wrong w/this post, and so much veiled hating, that I don't know where to start.

This is America, plenty of kids qualify but don't speak English as their first, 2nd or 3rd language. Also, euro's tend to have a much better chance of qualifying then your typical street urchin. The reality is opposite of what you suggest. Euro's can deal w/amateurism issues, but it doesn't ever have to do w/grades or scores. They do better then american kids on the whole.

I'm all about grabbing the best recruits possible, but you use terms like 'salvage' when describing the '10 class, which is laughable. First, '10 has a 4 star type versatile big, easily as good a recruit as Dia or McCoy, holding it down. Second, this is a young team and playing time isn't a given for even impact kids. Smith won't be penciled in as a starter on Day 1, so I'm not sure why any other recruit would be.

Posting an opinion has nothing to do with hating. Do not give me that baloney. It is my opinion as I see it and I stand by it. I do not buy your statement that this is a young team. That was last year's excuse. This team has a quality level of experience and it time they step up, find some toughness and become competitive. Yes, we still need 2 more high quality recruits for 2010 to give the future of the team the talent and depth it needs to progress. Yes, salvage is a good term when so much depends on Doh's talent needs for 2010. I still think our talent level is not sufficient to lift us to the top half of C-USA let alone the talent nucleus to become an NCAA tournament team. The theme of this thread is whether or not Doh is on the hot seat. My opinion is that he is in fact on the hot seat and that his 2010 recruiting class is critical to the program and will weigh very heavily on the decision to retain him beyond his 5 year contract.

You're allowed to have opinions, just base them on something other then random conjecture. You don't know anything of Patsevichs situation, but started in on the can't speak english, might not qualify schtick. Then, follow it up w/a comparison to the 09 football classes non-qualifiers, saying they at least knew english. Of course you're going to get called out b/c it's wrong. There are facts at play here, not just guarded speculation from jaded fans. In the same post, you can't fathom that we're recruiting against WKU, like we're the superior program historically. They were just named a Top 4 mid-major program for this upcoming year, and have a ton of success in the postseason, most recently w/a Texas based star. They came in behind Gonzaga/Butler, not bad company. In there first preseason scrimmage, they battled Ga Tech even.

Also, I'm not using youth as an excuse for wins & losses, that was your assumption. I'm saying the team is young in scholarship years, and many of those same players are eating much of the available burn. You say we need 2 more impact kids in the '10 class, and I'm telling you it's going to be tough to guarantee them time. You can find kids that are good enough to compete for time, but its not a given they get it, much less start. It's not a negative, it's the positive of having decent depth. Should a Top 100 type kid want to come, and can start right away, I'm sure they'll accommodate him. FWIW, Leslee Smith is a Top 125 type player by years end. Doesn't mean he'll get that ranking, but he's good enough.
