Thank you so much for coming on this board, having the courage to do so, and being so professional in your responses to the many ideas we have. What's the old saying, you can't please everyone? But everyone here has one goal in common: the success of SMU athletics. I agree 100% with DiamondM's comments that Whoever told you SMU was an intelligent football crowd was probably on some kind of hallucinogenic substance.
DM's comments are true for most of the crowd, not everyone, but most of them. I do believe that our crowd needs to be educated about when to yell and when to be quiet. Our crowd may be intelligent, but it is not football intelligent. In my humble opinion, a good PA announcer is one who provides relevant information (stats, scores, players' names) and is part of a game presentation that at the end of the game, you may not notice was there. I know there are differing opinions (the NYTimes had an article about PA announcer styles earlier this year: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/29/sport ... ounce.html). Because of the differing opinions, I would encourage you to be true to yourself when you are announcing. Anything that is "forced" will come across that way. And I think the result of our crowd, our history, and generally low level of attendance leads one to try to do too much from a game presentation perspective. Thank you again for the courage to come on this board and to listen to us. We all appreciate it.

Hey everyone.... just have time enough to respond to a couple of things.... getting ready for the Women's Hoop Hour. I have passed along to my boss everything that has been mentioned, including some of the song suggestions. I have also given them a few ideas of some of mine. Suggestions are like molasses, it may take awhile to reach the goal. Loved the shortcut on PA Announcers. My radio background was far different than what I'm now doing for SMU. I was a bit more mellow. For Football, I've tweaked here and there trying to find just the right mix of being a professional versus an off the charts homer. Based upon input here and abroad, I'm getting closer. One thing you need to know about me is that I'm a perfectionist when it comes to what I do for SMU, but more importantly, SMU Fans. Without the fans, we all might as well not show up. So even though I am proud of our progress with Football, I will always learn something or tweak it to make it just that much better next time. Basketball, for those that may have been there for the women's prelim, was a great tweaking run. That's what it basically was. Figuring out what we were going to do, when we were going to do it, where I was going to sit and all that. I spent the majority of the day today working on my media stuff that will make my job easier, more organized and a 200% better product than the prelim. But like all things, when it's over, feel free to give me your honest assessment and critiques. Guess that's it. Again, appreciate the warm welcome and hope to see you tonight at the Hoop Hour. David

David, great job on getting the crowd involved on the opponent's 3rd down. I liked that and it seemed to fire up our D also. Keep the big emphasis on our first downs too. Hear ya this Saturday
I'm the guy blocking your view on 3rd down and making your ears hurt.

Hey Voice, really appreciate you coming on here, thanks!! We know you don't have much input into the other areas but relaying the information is awesome! Can we all pitch in and pay "Prego" to stop the Kiss Cam? -- I'd be happy to sponsor them out of our sponsorship ..haha. I'm not a big fan of the music during the huddle and right into the snap. It's done at Mavs games but I don't think it translates to college football. We could use more video shots of the cheerleaders, students, and band. And I'd love to see more college scores being displayed throughout the game (Top 25 and CUSA). The SMU crowd needs to be nudged to cheer...kind of like Humble Billy (ex-Mavs). We have too many grumpy people in the stands, they need to be encouraged to cheer at every opportunity....that is just the way it is here folks for now. Not sure even winning will change these lame duck fans. "S-M-U" Go Ponies! Thanks!

can we put spikes in the bleachers that pop up when our opponents face 3rd down? I figure that would get people not only out of their seats, but making noise as well.

, Spikes in the bleachers..... nice! Don't think we can get school approval on that one, but we are really hitting a stride now and I am personally going to do everything I can to not only make it a fun experience for the fans, but make the team feel really important. When I went down to get my 2-Deep media chart for Saturday's game in the coaches offices, I went and said hi to each of them while I was there. I also bounced something off of them to get their reaction that I wanted to do, based upon a suggestion that was expressed here. The coaches laughed and loved it and said the players would too. So be prepared.... we are going to start something NEW and we need FAN participation. Again, thanks for all the great suggestions. Our entire team appreciates the creativeness that each of you have shown, but more importantly, your desire to help up make SMU Athletics the most fun and entertaining environment possible. See everyone at Basketball tonight and Football tomorrow. David

A couple of quick hits before I head out to celebrate.
- More "My City". It's either not enough, or too much. See the thread about playing it too much.
- Any field goal attempt needs the wolf pack call. The crowd went crazy when you announced that, and even moreso when the howl was played. That needs to be a part of it, every time, without fail.

Please pass this on to your superiors:
Do NOT...I repeat...Do NOT allow the dance teams that dance pregame to cut into the band's pregame show time. Today the football team ran out while the band was marching to form the tunnel that the team was supposed to run through. It's a simple fix: move the dance teams' performances up by about 2 minutes.

How about knowing the CUSA standings? Don't get the crowd to cheer when SMU is on offense.
