After the final whistle, my wife looks at me, sees the tears welling up, and says, "Did you even cry when your son was born?"

What a great experience. I started school in 91 and this is the first time SMU has ever been in first place.

being born in 85 i have never seen us win like this! I admit that being an SMu fan post DP I am still extremely negative throughout the game. "They will win" they will make this 3rd down" "we will throw a pic here" .. I cant help it after seeing us lose 90 percent of the games I have ever been to. but tonight was awesome! Best night of my life!

I was a weeping little b-tch. I was. I admit it. I had to listen to the last 8 minutes or so on the internet. My wife came into the room and listened. And I wept. Like a little b-tch, I wept.

And it is good. So damn good.

When UTEP was driving at the end of the game, I prayed and asked my father to please let SMU win the game. My dad was the former voice of the Mustang band, and passed away last year. After Taylor Thompson made the sack on 4th down, that was it. The water started flowing. I was shaking and couldn't stop. By the time I got home, my eyes were glassy and red, and I loved every minute of it.

Damn it felt good.

My eyes welled up with tears. I fought them back. When our Mustangs run out on the field at whatever bowl we go to, that is where I will lose it.

Had half of my family with their backs turned to the 4th quarter of the Nebraska game (which was still way too close at that point) watching the last drive on my laptop. Watching the students getting to rush the field was incredible. Wish I could have been there.

[If we get to the conference championship game, I am trying to convince my dad we should make the trip and try to make it for the SMU game and the Big 12 championship game in the same day!]

I was thinking of my Mother. She went home in 1991. Even though Dad was UT grad, she got her three kids to all graduate from SMU. She was a classmate of Doak Walker and a big fan of SMU throughout her life.

A brief aside: during the undefeated year 82(?), I was in high school and listening to the Mustangs on radio against Tech. They had scored and it looked like the perfect season would be ruined. I was yelling and stomping in the living room when my Mother came in and asked what was going on. She heard the explanation and calmly said,

"SMU will find a way to win."

With that, she walked out of the room. A couple of minutes later and Bobby Leach was streaking down the sideline for a TD.

SMU is back to the SMU of old, finding ways to win. And I wish she was here to enjoy it with me.

I cried. I had to sit on a bleacher for about 20 minutes after the game and just soak it in. This game will go down in my list of SMU football memories with the 1963 Navy game against Roger Staubach, the 1965 Homecoming game against the 'Horns, the Astro-Bluebonnet Bowl game against OU, the 'Miracle on Mockingbird', the first game in Ford Stadium with a win over Kansas and the 21-10 win over TCU!

Somewhere in Heaven, my father was listening to tonight's game on his old shortwave radio with Kern Tips doing the play-by-play for the Enco Game of the Week!

SMU fans have to be the greatest college football fans in America in the past 20 years.

Time to sit back and enjoy. It's for real. You earned it.

The future looks great for SMU football!!!

Here's to all those long time SMU Fans who played a special part in our relationship to SMU but who didn't make it to be here when we finally turned it around. Sounds like many of us have those people in mind.

I waited 20 years for this moment. It has finally arrived and I predict many more good times for SMU. Pony Up!
