No we threaten to start up the Peruna posts again.......

He doesn't need to answer any questions. He'll make decisions in the best interests of his team and his program. Get you a head coaching job and you can do it your way.

Jones is paid well by SMU. SMU still "owes" him something?

I still fail to grasp the concept of purposely going to a lesser bowl.... Nobody has managed to explain that in any of the threads about this

June wants Hawaii because we can win that bowl. We would get alot of publicity and what treat could be better for the team that finally got us back than HAWAII? I want to be at a bowl as much as anyone. But maybe Hawaii is our best option. BTW we are SMU. A Million is pocket change.
A million is not pocket change when your AD Dept is in debt big time.
and as brought up in another thread the bowl payout is even in CUSA for all bowling teams http://www.dailymail.com/Sports/ConfrenceUSASporta/200910221141
Bagice, you undermined your entire argument by oddly focusing on the payout rather than the opportunity to play an SEC team. You need to read the link white helmet provided above which shows that the money for smu is the same no matter which bowl they go to before you embarrass yourself further. I definitely hope we go to the Liberty Bowl if we win the conference, but it is for the opportunity to play an SEC team and maybe get a program boosting win.

So UT would be just as happy to go to $3mil bowl as a $17 mil bowl, just as long as another Big 12 team got the $17 mil bowl? ?
Some of you guys need a shot of Red Bull to improve your logic. (And don't forget travel expenses in your calculations - or is Jones putting it on his Gold Card?)
HELLO? IT'S ABOUT THE PRESTIGE OF PLAYING IN THE TOP BOWL OFFERED BY YOUR CONFERENCE!

You should really have read my whole post rather than just the part you quoted since I made the same argument you did, only in a less strident tone.

I read it. The part I quoted was stridently hammering bagice for saying the Liberty Bowl paid more. What did I miss?

I guess you did not follow the link and read the article. Bowl payouts go into a pool and are shared by all of the conference's bowl teams.

has anyone thought beyond the coaching staff...maybe there is more meaning to this game in hawaii? maybe there is something with the players also, because if anyone has say in which bowl they would rather go to i would think the players play a role. Just maybe there is something we don't know yet that serves some reason in why the hawaii bowl is such a big deal? something more then money...

I know that. My UT example shows it's not about getting more money for your individual school. It's the prestige of going to a big-money bowl, the top one in your league.
The Liberty Bowl is C-USA's top-money bowl. Having an SEC partner is one reason for that. It all says, "We're where C-USA's champ plays."

To go further along with this. Other than a fun vacation, I don't see the benefits of going to the Hawaii Bowl over the Liberty Bowl. We'd have a better chance of winning the Hawaii Bowl, but win or lose, we won't be playing anyone special really, and so it won't say anything about us even if we win (while a loss would look horrible to a mediocre bowl team.) In comparison, a loss against even a low-rung SEC team in the Liberty Bowl wouldn't hurt us at all, while an upset win would be possibly the story of the entire bowl system (outside of the BCS/champ games)

Maybe June will just throw a game and make it a moot point. "Oh well, no more chance of the Liberty Bowl guys."
