I like your enthusiasm. Just don't overdo it and take away from the team. Urge the crowd to make noise while we are on defense and even before the other team breaks the huddle. We need quiet while on offense. Announce more scores that are of interest to Texans and upsets in the making nationally like you did for the CFU and Uh. Drama! Urge the crowd to be in their seats at least 10 minutes before the game and again when the team comes out after halftime. The first 5 minutes of the first and third quarters sets the tempo. We need the team to be fired up coming out of that tunnel each half and we need the fans loud when they do. Great to see the enthusiasm after the game and officials letting people on the field. Smart move!

BASKETBALL: "Please stand and join in the playing of our national anthem." (2 years running) I haven't seen anyone other than Mustang Band members bring instruments to the games. I think fans would feel more comfortable if the announcement was, "please stand and join in the SINGING of our national anthem." Fewer people would be grabbing their pocket comb and searching for a piece of tissue paper. Thanks.

Noticed you at the UTEP game and a lot of people around me were talking about what the PA was saying. We were all entertained. Good job. Keep it up.

To be fair, "Please stand and join in the singing of our national anthem" should only be used if there is a lead singer (such as the homecoming football game where that opera person sang). For the situation at our basketball games (and football games at which the Mustang Band is playing the national anthem), a good announcement would be something like "And now, please stand and join in as we honor America, as the Mustang Band plays our national anthem."

Actually, according to Emily Post, the announcement of "join in the singing" refers to joining with those in attendance as it is sung in unison. Thanks anyway.

You're doing a great job, much better than what we've had in the past.

Get rid of all the ballads on the play list. Here are some suggestions for replacements (but less music is good, Young Jeezy is good):

I'm Shipping Up to Boston - Dropkick Murphys
Jump Around - House of Pain (a la U Wisconsin)

Hi Everyone...

Thanks for the comments. Here is the deal, I am given an "Approved" script for all reads with the exception of actually game play, which I'm pretty much on my own. The script is sent to all parties of the broadcast team, but more importantly, our bosses in the Athletic Department. Changes, modifications, additions or deletions come straight from the bosses. Tweaks are made along the way, resent to everyone again and so on, until a final script is approved. Once approved, It is my obligation to make the read as written. There has only been one or two occasions where I have ever deviated from the approved script and those were unintentional but a misread on my part.

As I have previously told everyone, there are as many as five(5) bosses and co-workers talking to me at any one moment, so the importance of having a script in hand becomes even more important. It's kinda like being able to walk and chew gum at the same time. :D

All of that said..... I have passed along the comments to those in the position to approve changes.

Again, I want to express my deepest appreciation to everyone, especially those who have taken the time to give me a shout from the bleachers (Basketball) and from the Mustang Club Luncheons on Mondays. I greatly treasure this amazing opportunity to be part of the SMU family and it is a responsibility that I do not take lightly.

Go Mustangs!

I'm not sure if a "Miss Manners" sort of organization has the...cultural background, shall we say...to be the authority on sports-announcer-etiquette.

Glenn Sosbee wrote:The "I can't hear you" thing is a little tiresome, we mustangs will make noise when necessary without much provocation. We are a very football savvy bunch with a high football IQ and know when to make noise.

"Let's hear it from the Hilltop" would probably be more appropriate and be more catchy. Good luck!

While I like your suggested phrase, I disagree with your assessment of the mustang fans. It takes a great deal of provocation to get those around me to pay attention, and cheer at the appropriate times.

The goalposts were replaced with the folding variety after we snapped our winless streak against San Jose State following our winless season in 2003. If a kid got hurt at the TCU game in 2005, it wasn't because he climbed the goalpost.

Kicks are usually blocked by Margus but Taylor Thompson needs credit for the push he provides.

If you are going to say Margus the terminator Hunt, you need to also mention Taylor the manimal Thompson.

"The Terminator" is stupid. It isn't funny, unique, or memorable.

Margus Hunt is the Eastern Bloc(k).

Good one.

Likened to the UConn basketball guard from Israel nicknamed "The Gaza Strip"

Regarding our National Anthem, i have been to almost all of the SEC sites and EVERY one of them start the announcement for the anthem with "Please stand and remove your caps"

I know, it's the SEC.

Really feeling it about the game next week, regardless of the Marshall outcome. What a great start for the program.

Park at the Lumen, stroll the 'vard, cold Coors at Mustang Club. I"ll be walking around looking for that Bloody Mary and Slim Jim.
