between all the insight from you guys and the suggestions from my friend that lives out there which i'll post below, Im wondering what my motivation will be for the return flight..

anyway, i thought this email i rec'd might be helpful:

think Sheraton is on the beach of Waikiki and Prince Kuhio is not. I think they are both nice hotels, but I also think the Sheraton is a nicer place. It is the Sheraton that is sponsoring the Hawaii Bowl so maybe they have a deal if you stay there? This would be my pick, but I think it is not as central as in the middle of Waikiki as the Prince Kuhio is, but maybe a little more of a walk (10 minutes?). Both are located in Waikiki and closer to where the bowl game will be vs. North shore side. I think if you want a vacation where you want to "get away from the crowds" then go to the north shore, but if you are wanting a huge selection of shopping, good restaurants, sunsets over the ocean and calmer swimming places then stay around one of the hotels you mentioned. The north side is far from most things and traffic on this island is the pits and I don't think you want to be spending your Hawaii trip in traffic. Remember that the island you are going to has over 1 million people and there are tons of folks wherever you go. You may want to drive over to the north side if you have a chance....it is during December and winter months when there are 20 foot plus waves to see.

Man, I'm so envious of you guys. Just can't make it to Hawaii for Christmas Eve. Can't believe our first bowl in 25 years is 3000 miles away on Christmas Eve. Ugghhh!! :(

Oh well, not complaining. My whole family will be watching and cheering while we open a few presents. That is, assuming Lucy, I mean Tulane, doesn't pull the football at the last second.

Go Mustangs! Beat Tulane!

It’s never easy!

There are two different plans I have successfully utilized to achieve the goal of solo travel... (30 years of marriage)

#1 The Face Off
The face off is the most difficult method however is the most effective in terms of major heat on return. The face off should never be a direct attack. It needs to be subliminally passed by while engaged in friendly banter with your mate. Several days if not a week before the point of travel. This is always followed by a promise of something she wants.
It is very important to only mention this once.

B To pull this off you must be willing to go all in, and put on the poker face. Example: on a recent visit to my son’s house he said that my wife told him that if I went to Hawaii with out her she would get the divorce papers ha ha ha bluff. I asked my son what he said his reply was you better get them because he’s going. (Love that kid)

#2 Sneak & Vanish

The sneak and vanish is not recommended but usually leads up to the more effective” Face Off ” The major problem with this plan is the overwhelming feeling of the Face Off when you arrive back to the castle. Easy on the exit major heat on return.

Disclaimer

If you have always been whipped and attempt the Face Off first, you may have an exorbitant amount of heat to fade. Remember you must be willing to go all in or fold like you have your entire life. Once the highly recommend face off has been successfully completed. You must begin the promise of fulfilling what it she wanted. And when ever she brings up what you did do not argue with her just smile and know you’re a man.

B If you’re not ok with her traveling with her friends or by her self to something similar don’t even think about it.

BTW I asked is she wanted to go her response was I don’t want to tailgate for 4 days LOL

GREAT post! Thats funny....I have prompted her a few times and I know a 'just book it and beg for forgiveness rather than ask for permission' route would be rather difficult on a Hawaii trip, so that was why any other Bowl would have been much easier to travel to for me.....if Mustang Travel can come up with a quick go to the Bowl and back deal then I have a chance. The fact that the Game is on Christmas Eve is another major issue to hurdle so that date may be the deciding kicker that I can't get out.....still perking though.

The benefits to spending Christmas in Hawaii: no need to decorate the house since I'm not going to be here, no grocery shopping or cooking, can't host the company Christmas party (house not decorated), can decline visits with weird relatives, and less shopping (the trip is my gift). Plus side is spending a week with family and great friends in paradise! The only thing I will miss is church but I'm pretty sure they have those in Hawaii!
