Question about 80-83 and Lance

While listening to the Ticket this morning, they mentioned that Colt McCoy had a chance to break a record for wins for a college QB over four years. I believe he's set to break the record held by a Georgia QB, who broke Peyton Manning's record.

I have to think #11 is up there in wins over a four year period, is he not? Anyone have the total without me having to look it up?

I know the record is tied at 42 wins with McCoy and David Greene from Georgia...good question though. My guess is 35..back when Lance was QB they played one less game a year in the regular season in NCAA Football too.

One would suspect that Lance is at a disadvantage as he only had 11 games a year compared to 12 now. And Lance had that advantage over previous QBs which had only 10 games a year.

Also, bowl eligibility and championship games would limit Lance's opportunities.

Lance is the winningest QB in SWC history (that will never be broken). He is at a disadvantage now cause of opportunities with expanded schedules.

If Lance started every possible game during his career, which would be 44 regular season one extra game for playing Hawaii or in Japan, games and 4 bowl games. Total 49.

Today's QBs have a possibility of 48 regular season games, 4 championship games and 4 bowl games. Total 56.

It is purely a numbers game.

Yeah I was about that say the record was 34 not 35 because remember Jeff Courtwright started that one game against NTSU where he threw the 96 yard TD pass to Craig James. I thought A&M's Bucky Richardson broke the SWC record in his last game but I'm not sure

And dad was right. Needed to secure the Cotton Bowl. There was plenty of time left. We stopped them, and were able to get into position for a FG. Unfortunately we missed it. Had we missed the 2 point conversion there is no telling which minor bowl, if any we would have gotten. We were still the only undefeated team in the country.

Really? I was young, and I don't doubt you, but I would have sworn it was cold and rainy at the Cotton Bowl.

Would not be the first time my memory failed me badly.

I was going to post exactly word for word what mrydel posted but he did it first. Right decision was made-we got the ball back-even called the right play to spring Dickerson on a outlet pass but the Arkansas DB made a great open field tackle of Dickerson who would have run down the sidelines. Still we had our shot to win with a FG at the end.

Ender 3: You were thinking about the Jan 1 1983 Cotton Bowl against Pitt which was played in the freeziang sleet. I don't know how old you were, but there was an SMU fan with his wife and baby sitting in front of me. It was so cold that the wife went to the car for the rest of the game at halftime. She wanted to take the baby with her, but the dad refused. He told her that it had been so long since SMU had been in the Cotton Bowl that he wanted the baby to be able to say he was there.

I have often wonderred about that baby. He would be at least 25 now. Wonder if he attended SMU? We sat in the upper deck, press box side, about the 30 yard line. If you were that dad or baby let me know!
