San Diego
SD is 1-3 and got blown out by Creighton 79-44 and Oakland 93-68. They are now w/out Keep which is good since the Rack is hobbled. We need a much better effort with less slop and a better bhop on Friday.
Go I-man and let's beat the Toreros!

Re: San Diego
Can someone tell me why Patrick Simpson is now playing the 3 spot? Is the idea to have Castro at center and Rack/Pearson at power forward?
Also, what's the status on Rack's ankle? I'm surprised no one has posted any info on that yet.
Thanks.

Re: San Diego
I couldn't believe those scores. Is San Diego that bad a year after going to the Tournament? That was a good win for SMU last year, thanks to some home cooking that got Keep in foul trouble if I recall. Looking back on it, we had some fun wins last year over San Diego, TCU and Baylor. Throw in a road win at Tulsa and it wasn't a bad season. Not great, but not bad, especially when you consider the feeling of this football season.
Re: San Diego
oh yea, and no new is good new on Rack if you ask me.
Re: San Diego
Donatis walked in at the Lady Mustang game Monday night with NO limp. A friend of mine asked another player and he said Donatis was fine!

Re: San Diego
I'm glad to hear that with regard to Rack. Now, can anyone offer any insight into why Simpson is now at the 3 spot?
Re: San Diego
I assume it is to get a bigger, better rebounding team on the floor and to utilize Simpson's outside shooting better. We are short at the guard positions and have only good role players at the 3. The key to making this work, IMHO, is for Castro to play stronger. Rack is coming on as a center and, if he keeps improving, could be the best we've had at the position since Poerner. Simpson must show some of the quickness that he showed last year for this to be effective too.
Right now, anything we can do to reduce pressure on BHop is warranted. He is needed on D and we must find a way to reduce his TO's. Simpson has very good hands and may be part of the answer there too. His long wing span will also help the D against the 3.

Re: San Diego
I like the idea of a 6'9 small forward with Simpson's hands and quickness. Sort of like Hakeem Warrick at Syracuse. I hope it works out.
Re: San Diego
One of you talked about guards -- one of our new signees, Derrick Roberts (Houston), is a shooting guard who is now averaging over 30 ppg through the first six games!
Re: San Diego
Bring him on!!! We need some outside shooting now.
Are any of the current freshmen shooters? Right now that appears to be our weak spot. Isham can shoot 3's and maybe Miller can get open. BHop shot better last week but I want to see it for a few games before I'm a believer in his shootng. His dismal %ages until last week have me nervous still. He could be the answer. Let's pray that he is because if he isn't, people will start packing the middle against us.

Re: San Diego
From what I saw of him in the EA game, I think D. Bennett can be a shooter. At least, he was something like 2-3 on threes. I liked his game a lot, and I don't remember him doing anything stupid, which is a plus.

Re: San Diego
just tuned in to find SMU up 5, 23-18. Sounds like Bennett has stepped up and is leading the Mustangs in scoring. Good to get him some minutes before conference play. Sure hope everything is O.K. for the Hopkins family and Bryan and Ryan can rejoin the team soon.

Re: San Diego
It is very unfortunate that the Hopkins brothers have had to leave SMU. It is a little bit curious that there has not been any mention of their brother leaving UNT. Is there any possibility that they might be back over the weekend so that Brian could play in the Tech game on Monday night?

Re: San Diego
sounds like our perimeter defense (or lack thereof) is going to make this a great game. Just can't pull away. Hope Bennett keeps up his scoring as we are going to need it. Where is Isham? We need him to contribute more.
