I know Dupard was the RB on this team, but who was the QB that year? I'm pretty sure McCellhaney had already graduated. Was it Don King?

Yes..the irony is that Lance who was the winningest qb in swc history lost his last game in the Sun Bowl, 12/24/1983 to Alabama.

Don King was QB and Dupard and Jeff Atkins were Pony Express II. Here's an interesting pregame writeUP of the matchUP. PonyUP. (Sorry I was I got carried away) . BTW that was also our last [Co]-Championship too other than SMU's 2005 Division II 1A Texas State Championship.

Now THAT game I remember as that day was really, really cold in Dallas and I was in a hurry to get to the airport and I had not properly warmed up my BMW and I drove it hard to DFW and it was not pretty as I had to park it in between DFW and Park Lane where I lived at the time( caused major issues with the engine!)...when I got to El Paso and went to the game late it was already 21-0 at the half and then watched the game and then caught a flight out to Seattle where my family lived at the time.....it sucked as Alabama kicked our butts early that game...now THIS 2009 Bowl game will be different...
( sorry for the long story)
