Sanders NFL draft pick? Sorry, don't see it.

Postby MiracleOnMockingbird » Sun Dec 06, 2009 9:21 pm

Meaning no disrespect to Sanders' college accomplishments, I just can't see him being taken in the NFL draft.

Davone Bess did not get drafted despite having better hands and better stats in June Jones' offense (one of the leading NCAA receivers of all time in fact).

Sanders does not have size, he has great quickness but not top speed by NFL standards, and his hands have been inconsistent.

I wish him well, but I think he will be glad he stuck around for his senior season and didn't test the NFL waters.

Fortunately, Sanders has another opportunity - on a national stage - to prove he belongs in the NFL hopefully he'll make the best of it.

Sanders probably projects as a slot guy, he was pretty productive in the R&S considering who he had throwing to him (Bess had the benefit of playing with Colt Brennan as well as playing alongside other highly productive WRs like Jason Rivers and Ryan Grice-Mullen). He should get a look in the late rounds and will be in camp with some NFL team, he'll have to make the best of the opportunity he gets.

Despite his gaudy numbers at Hawaii, Bess really isn't that fast. I think Sanders is a step faster, and considering that he put up his numbers at SMU, where he played on some teams that weren't that great, he should get a look. I'll say fifth round. He's tough and versatile — hope he gets a look.
Would be great to see another Mustang in the NFL.

Welker's about 5' 9", 185. He's tough little dude.

Anyone think Sanders will get a combine invite?

its not that deep of a draft for WRs which works in Sanders favor. I hope he gets a shot.

Having June as our coach certainly helps!

You have to think that because SMU has gotten more attention because of our record, and having a coach with connections like JJ both work in Sanders' favor. Having said that, he needs to play well in the bowl game, and hopefully that will give him a shot at landing on one of the senior games in the spring.

Also, being the current active career TD leader in the NCAA, as well as just setting the school record for receiving yards both play in his favor. He's gotten more national attention this year, and has made a handful of terrific grabs (which should be highlighted when teams go look at some game film from this season).

Been down this road in 2004 with my oldest.
If he get's an invite he will get drafted, and if you think guy's like xeon and others can't help him you're wacked. Agents X players with solid reputations swing votes.

He has more than likely been on the phone with those showing interest.
My projection is late 5th to free agent. And could help him self even more with a great bowl ga
me and Senior bowl invite.
