I truly believe that we would not be playing for the Hawaii bowl right now if it wasn't for shawbrey. He has come up big for us so many times this year. I hope he comes back next year otherwise were in a lot of trouble at the RB spot. But i don't blame him for trying to support his family he is in a tough situation.

It is well known that McNeal has struggled with academics and his place on the field in Hawaii is in doubt, as is his playing next year in any case. Perhaps the NFL is an option if he feels that he won't be able to make himself eligible for next season.

I he chooses NFL then fine - but I am afraid he is too small to be a durable NFL back. He should get one more year and ask to be on kick off return - that might be his NFL future.

If he comes back next year I just hope he stays injury free for the season. An injury would really cost him a chance.

He could be going through the process to see if he can get insured for next season as well. Schools can help you get loans to pay for an insurance policy, but I am sure you would have to have a draft analysis in order to find out what kind of policy you qualify for.

How big was Eric Metcalf? I thought he was a smaller back as well.

I hope that Shawnbrey passes...period. Whatever he decides to do, and regardless of his future playing football for SMU or the NFL, I hope that he passes. He needs that win as much as his football wins. He really, really does.

If Shawnbrey stays another year (I hope he does), that would be great. But, if he bounces to the NFL after one season here, that's great too. He'll be able to support his family, and we'll be able to use the following line in recruiting:

"Shawnbrey McNeal - NFL player. Goes to Miami for two years and rarely sees the field, transfers to SMU and becomes a star - so much so that he got drafted by the (insert team here) in the (insert round here) after just one season of regular playing time. Would you rather go to one of these BCS programs where you may not ever see the field, or would you rather come to a place where you will make a difference on every play? The best way to the NFL is through SMU."

Whatever Shawnbrey does I wish him well. He has done more in one year for SMU than some have done in their entire careers since the DP.

I love what he has done for the program. If you think about it, good running backs would have turned their noses at us before his performance this season. That being said, STAY FOR AN ENCORE SHAWNBREY! Let the Mustang faithful cheer your name for a few more games!
