2018 will mark 25 years of a NCAA Tourney drought - so we just all need to hang in there for 9 more years!

That's funny as we are heading to that record of 25 years, so this thread is appropriate.

we are about as far away from imagining an ncaa tournament berth as you can get. Conventional wisdom is that its easier to get it done in hoops because you only need 5 or 6 quality guys while in football you need 25-30. Problem is its much much harder to get in March madness than it is to get one of 6 conference bowl slots.

you don't even need 5-6 quality guys. Or, let me put that another way...we've already got some talented guys who are under performing right now. Add 1-2 real talents and this team could compete in CUSA and for post season play right away...with the right coach, that is.

'conventional wisdom' doesn't apply to the SMU hoops position. It is tougher then football b/c of the toxic environment in AAU circles. SMU was considered a perennial loser in football, we're hated in hoops, hated.

Also, and this is no offense to the greatness of June, but CUSA is a hoops conference by far. It's just far more competitive in the top 5 or 6 teams. You can't system you way into victories, until talent arrives. You either have the ballers or you don't. At that point system is essential.
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.”- Jalen Jones

I agree Ponydoh as we are hated in BBall and they have figured out Coach Doh here in the DFW recruiting circles and won't get a sniff from the real top recruits until he is gone. The two Reggies have helped I would imagine but the recruits know what Doh is like behind the scenes as they only have to talk to the existing or former players from SMU. I was trying to be patient with Doh and liked the three recruits we have coming but Doh will only nueter them and they will never play up to their real potential, and after watching four games this year have now realized it can't happen with Doh.
