This whole thing kind of reminds me of when Patton slapped the soldier

Not that I think what Leach did was not a big deal. Just saying it reminds me of that for some reason.

Leach has an $800,000 bonus payment coming this Friday if he makes it. My guess is he will be fired before Friday to avoid the payment, if not he stays at Tech.

what's more expensive, the $$ Tech would have to pay to buy him out or the 800k bonus? Do they only owe him the 300k/ year base and not the other incentives for the remainder of the contract?

ESPN said 400k per year for each year remaining on his contract if he didn't make it to 12/31.

My guess is this is the final step in firing Leach for cause. That way there would be no buyout and no bonus payment. Tech is in for $1.6 million if they just let him go. I am pretty sure they have Leach by the short hairs. He might just resign and play the victim. Otherwise Tech can portray him as someone that makes Woody Hayes look like a nice guy. If they do that, who is gonna hire Leach? Maybe North Texas...

He will be gone before end of day Thursday.

Don't be surprised if the Tech people show up at court in the morning and hand Leach his pink slip. I think that by him filing the TRO it gave the Tech people the out that they needed to fire him.

No that evidence alone would give Leach the classic retaliation claim-but then again managers and officiers make this mistake all the time but less often if they receive legal counsel. In order to fire they need to offer non-pretextual, actual reasons to fire him for cause based upon his conduct under his contract or Texas Tech rules and regulations. But sometimes it simply a matter of rephrasing the reasons. I do note though that there was very little reason given in his suspension letter-that could be a problem

They still have a buyout clause, the bonus us a separate issue. If he makes it to the 1st of the year he gets an $800,000 bounus payment.
